Just discovered Turner has a new stepped intercooler for our cars. Anyone try this out yet?

I remember seeing the laser engraving sneak peak in their IG a couple of weeks ago. Seems like a quality built product. I wonder how it compares in fin density to the other popular choices.

As Turner is owned by ECS and Pelican, not sure why you assume it’s a superior part because it has Turner name on it

For my money, ATM is the best out there for only a slightly higher price point.

No assumptions, hence the thread. I know ecs makes people cringe over here, but I've also had no issues using ECS myself over the last decade, so.

It's also important to note Turner made a name for themselves well before the ECS acquisition. They seem to be hardcore racers as I've been following them on IG for a bit now.

What is ATM btw?

I have no issue buying OEM Parts from ECS or Turner. I don’t think anyone has an issue with that.

But if you think that Turner is the same as days past, enjoy your Pontiac.

Looks like one of the Wagner EVO 1 derivatives/copies to me. It should be an improvement, but nowhere near the top of the field with respect to maintaining the lowest temps.

ATM is Ambient Thermal Management. Their claim to fame is the first to use a "stepped core" design (back in the E90 days), and use a single core, versus most who use two separate cores (one for the top stepped part and one for the lower base/thicker part) of the intercooler.

I don't see many posts where people are using the ATM, but I have seen the CSF which seems to be a copy of sorts.

With the csf I believe I read there's a pressure drop of about 2psi, and I believe it since these look much bigger than other popular stepped ICs. Not sure if their version is a bit different, or not, but is this the same experience with the ATM?

I don't plan on upgrading to a bigger turbo with this car so I'd like to avoid as much psi loss as possible.

The CSF is absolutely a derivative (not an exact copy) of the ATM. It shares the same end tanks, and exact same overall dimensions as the ATM. Where it differs are it uses a two-piece core (vs the single piece core on the ATM), and the lower core has a higher fin density than the ATM. This translates to the CSF being slightly heavier, but may have a bit better heat sinking capability purely due to mass. It also means though that the core is more restrictive than ATM's, which I noticed first hand in daily driving.

I am FBO E30 and have the CSF. It's interesting you mention the 2 psi pressure drop, would this translate to me being 2 psi off of boost target? You can see the CSF drops IAT over 10 degrees during my pull in the log below:

I am very happy with my CSF intercooler in Phoenix, AZ where temps are higher year round.

You can find better intercoolers that cost a lot less
