Off topic: but Guy Martin's Spitfire!

Great TV. Not sure about the poor 525i they've just shot to pieces but love the engineering & passion on show.

I do love the sound of them though.

Spent a few years off and on at RAF Coningsby (BBMF), great watching them going through practice etc.

When in Cambridgeshire we had them (and Lanc) flying just over house, low enough that you could not get all plane in picture lol.

Nice one, I do love piston engines starting up.

Jets can be rather boring on start up - unless you have an engine fire, then it's a tad interesting lol.

Piston engines - 2000 miles to one coast and 3000 miles to the other.
And a valve goes. Oh the joy of piston engines in aircraft.

lol, pretty much same with a jet engine, just more bloody stuff to go wrong.

Invariably it goes in most inhospitable place known to man or at least without a holiday inn

Garage List
brilliant programme, wish they'd do more stuff like this rather than the reality rubbish they keep putting on!

on the 525 subject, I am sure they could salvage the interior and some other bits!

not if your sat in starting the apu and you have to fire both fire bottles into it to put it out, then know the worst thing is you now have to replace them

Lol true, although the joy of avionics trades is we get to watch the engine people doing the 'hard' stuff

I think a Spey Engine change was around 6-8 hours.

watched it - great stuff - love the spitfire and the lucky anonymous bloke who bankrolled that whole project now has probably the best example ever

Guy martin is a total legend and seems lost in the modern world and probably should have been born 200 years ago building looms for the industrial revolution!!!

Even better imagine a program with Guy Martin and Fred Dibnah (obviously not possible to do these days).

It is actually scary how many hand skills and the ability to think as an engineer.

The father son handover of life skills and proper bloke stuff.

I watched a bit of antiques road show from the Roundhouse at Derby, amazing engineering and just total respect being able to manufacture basic parts, tools, etc on site.

Yes AH engines are roughly the same time however a good team could do it in 4 if needed

I have watched a few of them being carried out as well.

Mainly sandy places, however also visited Agusta Westland a lot as well.

Luckily for me I avoided all things Wokka orientated and managed to stop on bombers.

Back to the program, I did like the gun firing, however it does show how effective cannon shells are compared to machne guns.
