Why on earth do you need to give them time to raise the funds for the repair. That's what these ridiculously high interest rate companies are for on the TV. Let them get a high interest loan then it's up to them to pay it off. Cheeky Bar Stewards!!!
You shouldn't even need to get 3 quotes. Just tell them your repairer of choice and that's it...PAY IT!
It isn't being accommodating, at the moment you are the victim and have the moral high ground. Should it go to court you have shown you are reasonable and not vindictive which goes a long way. The court would not allow someone to get into debt to pay a fine. What's better, you give them a month or 6 weeks to pay the repair or a court imposed £10 a week for x number of weeks?

And who is to say the 3 quotes don't all come from different BMW approved body shop? If you car is relatively new having it repaired at a manufacturer approved body shop wouldn't be considered unreasonable.

I have always wondered what type of people it is that scratches others car. Was it a young guy? Old guy? Business man or bum? etc...

In my head it is a teen doing it "for fun" but maybe the reality is that adults do this kind of shit too.

What about revenge? Someone, in a nice car has upset him at some time and he knows how he'd feel if someone did that to his car so.........

I fear the tone of this will change when the guy is told that £50 won't sort out the damage he caused. If he hasn't the cash to pay the bill then its going to get messy unless the Police lean heavy on him to force him to find the £300 - £400 it will take to sort this out.

I hope they catch the jealous scum. The guy who did will probably never own a car like yours in his lifetime and if he does what goes around comes around 10 times worse.

A super prat and prick of a neighbour reversed into my car, causing £1950 of damage (new front bumper an nearside adaptive Xenon). I had a witness. He refused to admit liability. My Insurance Company LV contacted his, who paid up. His premium I am sure shot up. But what a hassle it tuned out to be.

Oh, I did inform the police and received a polite reply saying they were not interested. I also contacted my council and blamed them for not sorting the pricks parking arrangements which are in most part illegal. They sent a councillor to his house. He has now reduced his parking misdemeanors.

Cheers for all the advice. If he wants to avoid a record he is going to have to pay for a BMW body shop. Will be keen to have some assurance he will pay for it (e.g paying the workshop upfront) beforehand though in case he changes his mind later on.

Copper dealing with it goes on leave tonight so I am guessing I will be getting a quote in the meantime.

Incidentally the scratch is so deep that it has removed part of the bonnet itself. Does anyone know what this is made of on an F30? It looks like a plastic or composite material.

Here's the quote from BMW...

I suspect he is going to regret his decision to key a brand new F30 with metallic paint.

Sweet. F'in. Mercy.

Charging 120 quid for 2 scans when painting a bonnet is taking the urine, surely?
"Methods research - 30 quid"?

I suspect he will moan like, oh, insert your own punchline here . But if I were in your shoes, I would expect him to be paying that, nothing less.

lol, that is taking the P! Surely if you went to them and said that your car vandalised and 'you' to pay for it to be repaired, they would have probably quoted you half of that.

Anyway he deserves it! Lets hope he honours the remedy!

There is an elderly guy in a street in a nearby village, who systematically scratches cars whilst walking his dog, if said cars are left with 2 wheels on the curb (it is a narrow street so many people park up on the curb to allow easy access by others). It is a cul-de-sac with wide pavements on both sides.

Everybody knows who it is, but he has never been caught in the act, so no intervention by police.

A friend in this street had a party, and 4 cars had deep scratches from light to light down the sides. Few grands damage thanks to this fart.

Possibly mentioning some veiled possibke happening etc.

Your post has made me apoplectic.

The sh!t. Maybe his dog should go missing or he needs to be threatened or even better a given a good thrashing with no witnesses around. Will soon change his ways, I guarantee you. But this might expedite him to the loft in the sky. I have been told one can hire some heavies for a hundred quid. God forgive me for thinking in this way.

These b^st^rds really get my goat.

£1000 to paint half a bonnet. Jesus christ.

That's more than a rip off than £100 for M sport grills and £300 for the spoiler.

That's the going rate for BMW Body Shop. But they do get it perfect, believe me.

People have confronted him.....he denies it is him, but at same time mutters "Perhaps they should learn to park the cars on the street, not on the pavement"

Thing is it is a short street, and these are effectively his neighbours. I just don't get some people.

Yep, they will spray the whole bonnet, and it will look better than the factory paint when done (not difficult I know )

....the only issue will be colour match, as it is a different paint system used compared to the factory finish.

We had half of a 5 series (Front wing, bonnet, two doors and rear quarter) painted by BMW for only £170 more in Nov 2013.

Mines in BMW bodyshop now, £1800, rear door only. They are fitting a new door, and blending, so painting half the rear quarter and front door with base coat, then all 3 panels with clear.

Why? Yes some prat caught my door in the parking lot. His insurance company is paying, although he offered to until he saw the estimate.
