How do you mount your smartphones to your car?
Hi guys, cross posting these reviews I did on my blog from the F10 M5 forums. I spent some time reviewing and trying multiple options and the company was kind enough to send me different types to try out.
Koomus Magnetos - CD slot based magnetic mount. Koomus CD-Air - CD slot based mount with grip Koomus Aero - Air Vent Car Mount

ProClip. Mounts to the trim, and is adjustable. Doesn't rattle.

but the mount I liked most is the cigarette lighter mount. doesn't proclip block AC air?

Exactly my question. This requires you to put a strong adhesive on the car and phone. You then have a nubby phone that you can't lay flat. I guess it wouldn't be that bad if you had a case, but I wouldn't stick anything to the interior.

RE: questions about the Steelie mount:
I have the round metal receiver ball mounted with the 3M tape to the 1 1/4" down trim just to the right of the I-drive control. non obtrusive and actually looks good because it's a shiny stainless look. As far as the phone mounting the small round magnet that adheres to the back of the phone or case is again completely non intrusive and will let your phone sit flat on it's back as it is large enough for the phone to sit flat without wobbling at all. The magnet also gives you a finger rest to balance your phone when holding it and viewing the screen. Note: if you have a case with the built in kickstand, you need to pop the kickstand off so the 3M tape on the magnet can adhere to a smooth surface. |

This is an excellent thread and it could not have come at a better time for me. Awesome reviews Loft. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on each system. I'm buying them ALL and seeing which one fits my car and is the most ergonomic to me. I have a feeling the CD based mount may be at a slight disadvantage due to it being slightly out of my line of my sight. I'm guessing it would be distracting to have to have to constantly look down at the phone and up at the road. The vents would position the mount slightly higher up in my car (f30) and hence closer to my field of view. Did you find that to be the case in your reviews of these systems? |

I mounted a proclip mount to the console between the idrive and the center storage compartment with Scotch 3M Extreme Mounting Tape (available at Target). Since taking the photo I have rotated it 180 degrees so I can view it better from the driver's seat. No air blocked and quite handy in my view.

I think you should try a few, but looking at the F30/32 interior, it's not that much different from the F10 in terms of CD to I-Drive relative position. If you place it on your vent, you'd be off center and will have to contend with the steering wheel.

Simple cupholder mount. I used ProClip USA in my previous cars but have not found a mount that I liked for the F30.
w/o the iphone: with the iPhone horizontal (the way I use it most of the time): ..and vertical (when I need to use the left cupholder for my coffee): Waze is my best friend, so I like to keep my phone easily accessible. |

I also use my phone completely for Waze. Best app ever!
I ordered the CD mount the OP reviewed. I was looking at all three and one of the issues besides the limited angles for the air vent mount, my iPhone 5s partially covers the iDrive screen. It looks like the CD mount will be perfect. I will let you guys know how it works once I get it. |

Just in for one. Got the CD-Air. Looks sleeker than the one I'm using.
I've been using this cd mount. http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroov.../dp/B004G1L52Q edit: just found this Satechi CD mount that looks almost the same as Koomus one but cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Univer...7GX9RB4WZDT993 anyone has both to compare?

These contraptions are awful. I just pull the thigh support out slightly in the passenger seat and stick the phone in there. Of course, I'm generally not looking at the phone and typing on it while I'm in traffic.
