I really like how effectively the rain sensing wipers work on my F30, and likewise on my E46.

I wonder if the cars windshield was replaced, and whether the rain sensing bits were properly installed. When I had a windshield replaced (two different times), the rain sensing did not work at first each time. The windshield installer needed to make adjustments to properly adhere the rain sensing hardware. It seems to be a tricky operation. Since it was reworked, it works great!

I use the auto function exclusively on my wipers and it rains a lot here in the PNW. What doesn't work on yours?

Mine work...kinda.

The speed of the wipers is never *quite* right. They are often a little too slow in heavy rain and a little too fast in light rain/drizzle. Adjusting the sensitivity on the wiper stalk really doesn't help.

Then there are the brief movements when the system suddenly and unexpectedly freaks out and goes into full speed for no reason for a few swipes and then just as suddenly goes back to normal operation.

First world problems I know, but I absolutely hate the automatic wipers on my car. First off I have to press the button to enable auto wipers, which kind of defeats the purpose. I guess that's for ice and car washes, but in my opinion you're dealing with rain much more frequently than those things. In regards to operations, they are usually too slow for me, no matter the situation and I find myself needing to flick the stalk. Occasionally when its really coming down it gets the speed right, but man do they get on my nerves lol

The purpose of the auto wiper function isn't to turn the wipers on automatically when it rains. It's to vary the speed of the wipers according to the rate that rain is falling. It will also turn your lights on if it detects that the combination of the rainfall rate and ambient light level justifies it, and turn them off again if the rainfall rate slows. Mine work perfectly.

Yep, on point..

People misunderstand the function of these features; auto wipers allows the sensor to control the speed of wiper blades based on the level of rainfall and speed.

Same as Adaptive Suspension, folks assume it's suppose to instantly change the overall feel of the vehicle's rebound but it's purpose it's to vary the damping rate based on velocity, pitch and roll.

Auto wipers have worked fine on my BMW cars with them fitted. Tested regularly in the Highlands of Scotland, we get all types of rain.

Key to best function, keep the screen clean.

If the wipers are going at any speed, the headlights will be on. Regardless of the light situation. Mine work fine.

Hey all I know is the rain was coming down hard, I was driving at 40mph for at least 1 mile and they never once turned on until I manually turned them on. Maybe it's because it's been so dry here in Southern California for so long they forgot how to work?

You may have heard we get a little rain over this way, I can honestly say my F36 auto wipers work fine. Got to admit not as well as those on the Mk7 Golf (in my experience) but good enough. When I remember to turn them on.......

You gotta click it up one notch and just leave it there.
If you have it set all the way down (off) they will never turn on.

Well now that makes sense. I DO have it at the lowest possible setting. I'll try moving it up a notch or 2.

Mine suck. I put the intermittent setting to max and mostly they still wait way too long. I need to snap a picture to share one of these days. Especially when I stop for a red light, even when I can barely see and everything through the windshield looks like a Dali-inspired smear of different colors of light, the wipers will stubbornly refuse to move.

It’s like they’re taunting me sometimes, waiting to see how far they can push me before I flip it up to the manual setting.

Mine are not. Driving through summer storms, when the rain alternates between heavy and light, I can see the dashboard headlight indicator go on when the wiper speed is fast in response to heavier rain, then turn off when the wiper speed slows in response to the rain getting lighter. It's more sensitive when the sky is darker, less sensitive when it's brighter.

Sorry, let me clarify. If the wipers are moving at any speed over every few seconds, the headlights will be on. Obviously as it gets darker, the lights will come on too.
