Yes, antenna is mounted under the dash. I accessed via the radio/AC area while everything was pulled out.

YouTube/Netflix occupies the whole screen maintaining aspect ratio with no stretch. Other than a slow load rate (due to shitty cell service), I didn't experience sync issues. To be honest, these are features I'll never use so I won't be able to really provide a true opinion and/or user experience.

Install is pretty straight forward...these YouTube DIY's are great as the screen replacement is the same whether it's AVIN, Unichip or BimmerTech.

Not sure what you mean by "old version". If you mean 6.5 OEM screen...yes, HUGE difference!

I just installed mine today with no issues.

Netflix is not available in the app store but you can download it directly through netflix if you enable install from unknown sources in the settings on the head unit.

Enable install from unknown sources for Google Chrome by following this:

1. are you running an iPhone cell phone with this unit?... Do you have to connect it to the glovebox to run the carplay app?

2. Did you get the rearview camera that they offer? Or is it connected to yourBMW OEM rear view?

- Yes, I use both iPhone X and 8+ running v12.1.

- No, they offer a separate CarPlay dongle to pair with. Dongle connects
directly to one of the provided USB ports which in turn connects directly to
head unit. I use my arm rest USB strictly for my iTouch ..


2.
- I have the OEM camera, no need for theirs as the factory camera is P-N-P


EDIT: F30_SixSpeed , to be honest...I won't be using CarPlay much as WAZE does everything I need it to do via the head unit.

The head unit pairs directly to my phone's network after approx 15sec. Within Settings>Networks, you can save as many available networks as you want (I have two phones and my home wifi saved)

No Google Maps freezing after time?

What problems? I only have had issues with time being reported correctly by the head unit but I resolved it by setting the time in the android settings and setting the head unit interface time to 'original time'.

I'll try Google maps next time I drive and let you know but no crashes or anything yet but im not typically running a bunch of applications.

Can't remember how I set mine (I'm currently a couple states away from the car at the moment)...does your time boot up correctly or does it self correct when head unit pairs to your phone?

It boots up with the incorrect time for about 5-10 seconds and then corrects itself. I've also noticed a bug where it will flop between 24 hour time and normal time (haven't been able to figure that one out yet...).

if you look at the first post of the "experience with 10.25 android 7.1 units" thread, you'll see the list of bugs and problems the device i causing.
And I'm really really hoping those bugs are not present in this new 8.1 device!

I'd be really thankful if you could light-me up with your input.

Google maps seems smooth to me even with Waze running in the background. I had Waze, Google maps running in the background all while playing a YouTube video for 20 minutes with no app crashes or sluggishness.

Over the last few days I had been trying new features via CarPlay to determine other issues. First thing to test was the "Podcasts" app. It opens with no issues, however, once "Play" is attempted...it immediately stops.

I notified 4x4shop.ca of the issue, they responded within 24hrs suggesting I remove the head units BT network from my phone as it's a known issue their "engineer" is working on.

This seemed to have corrected the issue. Since I'll be traveling with the car Christmas week, I'll have more time to thoroughly test.
