Fuel/gas door has no spring tension?
Hello, i filled the tank today and noticed the door didnt have tension once i popped it open. The lock mechanism is ok, but the door itself has no spring action, i can freely open all the way and close all the way and cant feel the spring. has this happened to anyone? Easy fix?
Thank you! |

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=41_2194 Fortunately, the part isn't too expensive. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/51177238100/ The replacement process doesn't seem TOO difficult, but it is somewhat involved. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...flaps/ImMJe14b GL!

I replaced the same part (51177238100) on my 2012 335i. The symptoms were a little different: the gas door was not locking. I told my Indy about the issue, and they sent the car to a body shop for repair.
That's right: my Indy decided it was better to let someone else do the job. |

UPDATE, bought the part for $37, did myself, was a bit of a pita because old rubber was way too tight from inside. Had to rip it off so i could get it out. Installing the new one was way easier but once finished a doubt came into mind, what if the rubber didnt sit propperly from inside? Is there a chance? Or it wouldnt have come all the way in if the rubber was jamed? The rubber looks like it was designed in a way that it will slide in place no matter what, because ther eis really no way of verifying fitment once the part is fully in.
See pics of the old part so you can better understand what i mean |
