BMW 335d N57Z Maintenance Advice

Hi Everyone

I picked up my 2016 BMW 335d Touring just a couple of weekends ago.

Needless to say I am so chuffed with it, and can see this is a car I will be keeping a long time.

With that in mind, I am turning my attention to what preventative maintenance I should be looking to get done.

I have the car booked in at a local BMW specialist the end of the month for the following work to be done:

• ZF8 gearbox serviced with ZF oil and pan;
• X-drive transfer box oil changed with genuine BMW oil;
• General service (replace oil and micro filter, and general check over car).

The car has 85k miles on it. Is there anything else I should be looking to get done around this mileage whilst it is in at the garage?

When I spoke to the garage they said that the swirl flaps on the N57Z are not likely to fail as BMW change the design from what was on the M57, so no need to delete. But they advised they may be coked up and benefit from a clean. But I was advised against removing if I was intending to keep the car stock (which I am).

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My new pride and joy:

Diff fluid is probably a good idea too.

That's about the mileage some suspension components are good for, so give the suspension a good look over. The front thrust arms especially since they are prone to leaking

Both good ideas, I will definitely give the suspension a good look over whilst it's on the ramp.

I will get in contact with the garage and ask if they can do the diff fluid same day.

Thanks

It is a beauty. Still have those pinch me moments when I can't believe it's mine.

I'm sure. I had an E90 335d and was hoping that BMW would continue with the F30 335d but we were given the 328d(320d UK), 535d (530d UK) and X5 35d instead. I was so disappointed but our low fuel taxes* made the 335d too expensive.

*Diesel is taxed at a higher rate vs petrol.

I think your wagon (aka shooting brake?) is without a doubt the best looking example BMW had done in decades. Having the N57 with the ZF8HP is just icing on the cake.

The E90's were very nice cars.

I had a 2009 330d sedan a while back. - The one complaint I would have with the F3X cars is that the steering is not as nice as I remember in the E9X cars, but such is the march to electric steering.

Your 435i is very nice though. - In the UK fuel prices are so high that I couldn't consider a petrol (we're paying £1.42/litre, which is US$7.26/Gallon! ).

If fuel prices weren't so bad here I would have definitely considered a F31 335i (N55) or 340i (b58).

It's a shame wagons never really caught on in the US (Europe call them 'Tourings', the UK call them 'Estates') - there's so many names for them it makes me laugh!
