That's a nice touch and a brilliant proviso! You're starting your sister off in the right place in NYC - I spent my first few visits (one pure tourist and the others business) not getting Manhattan at all, until starting to explore areas and places like that. Suddenly it clicked for me and I can see why people love living there.
