I'll add 1917 to the list as well. Cracking film that'll keep you on the edge of your seat from start to end.

None of the following are particularly high brow but they're good entertainment;

Bourne 1-3 and 5. The less said about no.4 the better.
Bridge of spies
Atomic Blonde
Lady in the van
Battle of Britain
Guns of Navarone
The 39 steps (the Hitchcock one)
The wicker man (the Christopher Lee one)
Withnail and I

'You look tired Pam, get some rest'

Cue Moby and credits. Love the JB films. Must have seen them about a 10 times each.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but I'd nominate Papillon from 1973 for the list, with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Great performances, story, locations and soundtrack.

Ditto Withnail and I - the funniest British film I've ever seen. I have the script in the downstairs loo

Whiplash - a film about an obsessive jazz drummer and a sadistic band leader.

Absolutely blown away by this film, not just the film but the talent of the whole cast.

Twin Towns - Rhys Ifans was a great film growing up, if you haven't then please find it the FA Cup scene always makes me laugh.

No it's the remake I've seen and I like Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer and thought Rooney Mara was suitably edgy/disturbed as well to make the film very good.

Not keen on subtitles although I did enjoy The King's Choice.
