Rubbing with H&R Sport Springs 18x8.5 ET35?

Hey all, so I've been browsing through many threads in the forum and have seen various posts about wheel fitment on the F30. I'm currently running aftermarket wheels and I just purchased a set of H&R Sport Springs. After some research, I haven't came to the conclusion whether my setup will clear the fenders, rub or not.

My wheels are 18x8.5 ET35 Squared (Aftermarket VMR Reps I'm assuming) with 245/40R18 MPS4 all around (xDrive).

I'll be installing H&R Sports over the weekend, but I'm confused whether I'll be good to go or my wheels would need to be switched out. Also posted a picture of my wheels for reference. It seems to me that the back will clear, but the fronts seem like they are poking just a little bit, but I'm not too sure.

Will do! Installing them on Sunday, and will post up some pics as soon as they’re on.

Don't forget to get some OEM F80 /M3 bump stop front and rear to replace your old one

What for? I know Dinan has the bump stops for their springs, but haven't read anywhere to replace the bump stops. Been through many threads about people swapping to H&R and none of them replaced them either.

Well it's sort of a Dinan bump stop but cheaper... because its fancy called Dinan bump stop which Dinan charge with a premium but no worries you don't have to replace them. I'm just wondering if your doing what others been talking about. I have been reading way too much for my own good about lowering my car using just springs ie eibach, h&r, and dinan with less than one drop and I end up wanting more info which I end up reading a whole section on bump stop thread on this forum. Yeah Farkle got me interested on lowering my car.

You will have plenty of space. I'm on 235/40R19 in the front with H&R sport springs, no problems whatsoever. In the rear you will have even more space.

personally, i only believe in lowering with coilovers or lowering springs with shorter dampers, such as bilstein b8 or koni yellows, complete.

if i were to do lowering springs only i'd get the shorter bumpstops to eliminate or reduce the preload on the OEM damper due to its height.

the lower the spring the more preload and less travel the oem damper will have. this may cause it to wear and/or fail prematurely.

while some lower their car and never have any problem, others report where ride gets progressively worse over time. it likely depended on how good or poor the roads were in their location, tire compliance, and a bit of luck.

if you buy the oem equivalent of dinans(bumpstops), shorter bumpstops are a cheap thing thing to add to hopefully prevent premature wear and maximize damper performance.

Got it. I may look into bump stops, but I may just lower my car w/o bump stops as I have put time aside tomorrow to replace the springs and shipping would take time.

Thanks! Will probably add spacers if there is still space to push out the wheels for flush fitment after install.

I was going to purchase dinan springs & bump stops, but didn't as I found a great deal with H&R springs. Do you think if I provide the BMW dealership in my area with the part numbers: 1) Front Bump Stop #33536784122
2) Rear Bump Stop #33536762722 they will have them in stock or they are available online only?

it's difficult to say if they stock these. i suspect they would have to order it, but i would not expect it to take too much time for the dealer to get them, though. i suggest calling the parts department on monday about it.

Okay cool, and I'm assuming these are the M3/F80 bump stops? As mentioned by above poster and Farkle's thread?

I'm not sure if its m80 or a shorter one from a different model. Maybe if you look up parts for m80 you can find out if its bumpstop part number is the same.

i did a quick google check and the front may be from an M5 or F10. the rear from an E60. they may use the bumpstops on various platfroms as well. please confirm this through your own research as well so you know exactly what you're getting.

edit dinans are supposedly E39/E60 bumpstops

So, just a quick update. My plan was to install the springs today and the dealership was closed, as well as ordering online would take time for bump stops. I installed the springs for now and so far so good for my satisfaction, obviously for others it’s a gamble. The drop is just right for me and handling is fine too. Car drives a little more stiff and somewhat bouncy in the rear, but that was expected. Springs probably haven’t settled yet as well.

Now I have one question, when would be the ideal time to get an alignment done?

Here are pics after install, hopefully they’ll settle some more. There is absolutely no rubbing and I’m probably going to end up adding spacers in the back!

You can probably do that now. I know some say you should wait, but mine was done like the next day.
