Michelin PS4s - * or no *?
Finally pulling the trigger on some new tyres for the 340 but there is £30 difference between having the * rating or not and wondering what the impact is in not having them * rated?
Thanks for your help guys! |

I've got non-* PS4S about 2 months ago, from Blackcircles.
I just went for the cheapest in the right size/load, and they are absolutely fine and brilliant. Apparently the * means nothing really, it's the BMW approval (or Mercedes is MO, etc) but the tyres are pretty much identical, no difference. But I guess BMW will only fit * tyres so the cost is a bit more and they pass that on to the customer.

MPS4S are the best tires that I've ever had. Can feel the side tread grip as you enter a curve. Amazing in rain too! |

* rated tyres only really matter with X Drive cars.
You’ll be fine on standard Michelin’s |

I think if you don't have X-drive it will make no difference
If you do have x-drive then it _might_ make a difference but it seems from anecdotal evidence it probably doesn't |

You'll notice a big improvement in bump absorption and traction off the line if you're coming from run-flats.
Don't bother about *

Agree with all said above, but depending on your BMW dealership you could have trouble if you ever have any drivetrain problems! in my case it was when i had my 7series and was having gearbox issues took the car in under approved warranty scheme
and got a call from the service manager saying that the two rear tyres are not star rated and until they are replaced they could not proceed with a warranty claim, these tyres were actually Bentley marked tyres same size has BMW of course, so only way forward was to buy two new BMW marked rears £500, that was my experience with my dealer not saying it will be the same with others, but that is there policy regardless of 2wheel or 4wheel drive, cheers Dave |

Just changed out of run flats on my 335d , I did phone one local BMW dealer to ask if they would fit P4s* and they said they would only fit like for like.
So bought the tyres from Camskil's and had a local fitters do them . |

Order is in with costco now. £566 for 4 Michelin pilot sport 4s with the star rating. I'm still in warranty so just thought for £30 I'd do it for peace of mind! Really can't wait to see the difference.
