The BMW OEM shift map would allow the engine to rev to the 5500rpm redline in Manual mode, which is pointless for a diesel.

Leaving aside the other aspects of XHP, the shift points feel OK to me and of course they can be adjusted for each gear to suit one's preferences.

As a package of tuning options XHP really help to bring the engine to life.

For £260 all-in, just do it.

I assume you’ve changed the shift points a little on yours?

Not yet - haven't got round to it.

4800rpm doesn't feel too far past the torque cliff, and 99% of the time the rpms are lower than that anyway. The rpm limit is for WOT, and XHP makes good use of the torque below that for almost all scenarios.

Maybe, but on a x30d 4800rpm+ is definitely not the optimum shift point for the power curve .. you only have to look at any Dyno graph on these cars. It’s strange that XHP would put the shift point so high up, its as though they developed it on a x35d (where those shift points are optimum) and were just lazy and used it on the x30d box map as well.

I would definitely be moving those shift points a little to more in line with the stock gearbox shift points in sport if I put it in my own car. Is the process easy to do?

Yes, the shift points are easy to adjust. There's a max rpm shift map which includes all 8 ratios.

Like most things in life, it's just a case of making the time.

Cool.. if it’s easy to do it’s not an issue

I did say in the other post, that Sport+ is actually a cracking setup, its both comfort and sport mode in one, if you are taking it easy the gearing is very placid changing gear at 2000 revs as normal and it goes in to eighth at a reasonable speed, but if you start revving it higher, its starts behaving like sport mode, there is only one downside for me, and that is that the steering goes heavy, which isn't my personal preference and i have sport mode set to light steering like comfort mode, i just don't know where or how to change the steering in sport +
Does cruise control have to be activated to enable 8th in sport + mode?

Stage 3 in Confort mine goes into 8th around 50mph. Not tried other modes yet just getting to the end of the 50 mile run in.

In comfort mine goes into 8th just over 60

I will add that comfort mode is really nice. Car still feels rapid. I did get a stage 1 remap when I got the XHP too. Motorway driving in comfort is really nice. Never feel like i even need to use paddle or switch modes due to how quick it drops 1/2 gears when give the throttle a slight prod.

I tried earlier to get my android phone to speak to the car with the enet cable but it didn't have any luck. I'll triple check in the house getting it on my home network but I'm sure it works.

But it didn't realise you meant in auto mode. I will test again tomorrow to double check. I was confusing D/S with the M/S on the stick when you knock it into manual

Is this the first time you're trying xhp with your phone?

The reason I ask is because xhp conveniently fail to tell you that not all android device manufactures actually support Ethernet connections. For example I tried a Google Pixel 3 and a Huawei pro30, neither of them even had the option to configure an Ethernet port. Tried again with a galaxy s10 and it was plain sailing.

Another point... I first tried with my s9 but it wouldn't connect. In the end i found out my usb port was a bit dodgy. Although the phone would charge up using the usb port it wouldn't transfer data unless you really pushed the cable into the port quite hard and held it steady. Far too unreliable to flash a transmission.

I can definitely get it in 8th in manual no matter what mode I'm in comfort, sport or sport plus

I'm not sure, its a pretty new function, and i don't have it selected and don't really want to have to redo the map just to add it on. Also thought i'd wait and let some others comment on it first to see if its any good. But for me if you are sat on a motorway doing 70 or 80, then you might as well be in comfort mode, there is no real reason to be in sports mode, if you get to the point were you need a faster response, it only takes a second to pop it back in to sports.

Oh just realised i never answered your question, or rather i initially read it wrong. It goes in to eighth in sports + mode very easily, you don't have to do anything to help it. I have mentioned before sports + is very flexible in how it drives.

Yeah think we had wires crossed mate. Only mentioned cruise control as a possible factor.

So to clarify when cruise control is off and you’re in sport + in auto your box will go into 8th?

If so does this also happen when in sport + and DS too?

If this is the case it’s odd how yours is behaving differently to mine.
What XHP map are you running?
