Do they come with the homes for the thread pre drilled ?
You don't go through holes you go through thread already sewn in along both sides of the leather.

Get on YouTube and watch a few videos.

Wow Looks really good! If you’d said it was a pro job I would have believed you!

So is this all that Royal Steering wheels does, just buys a kit and stitches it on!?

Cheer.

It's made me think the same but he offers flat bottomed wheels etc..... so not sure how he goes about doing them?

Just ordered mine from the same manufacturer, perforated leather sides and smooth leather top and bottom....worth a go for a fraction of the price of a retrim.

Nice job!

Is your steering wheel the thinner sports wheel and if so, how much thicker has this now made it?
I have an F32 2016 reg and I was thinking of using Royal Steering Wheels to have it padded out and re-wrapped, but after seeing yours I am having second thoughts whether to give it a go myself.

Plus how difficult would this be if the wheel was left on? Or would you not recommend this?

Cheers

For a fraction of the price of Royal Steering wheels, I'm going to have a go...most of the videos show it can be done whilst the wheel is on, which is how I'm going to try it.

Sounds good, good luck!
Let us know how you get on, in case I don't get round to ordering it just yet.

Didn't know there was a choice in original wheel thickness?? I wouldn't go any thicker than it is now, I'd call it nice and chunky - just right.

Wheel on would be better to work on in some areas but I found it easier with it off and sat at my kitchen island. Definitely best to strip it bare as well so you can hide all the excess leather with ease where needed.

Well the m sport steering wheel in my 4 series is far thinner than my old X3 M Sport and the latest X3 m sport. They both have a far nicer feel to them, which is why I wanted to improve my 4 series wheel.

Yeah I guess it may be easier to some degree with it removed, but not sure I am up to the job (my DIY skills suck).

Thanks

This is probably a stupid question: do I do any harm by reconnecting the battery after removing the steering wheel? I don't have a garage or any suitable place to work, and would like to have the car locked while I work inside on the steering wheel

I've ordered a cover, and my understanding is that it's easier and I'll get a better result removing the steering wheel.

I decided to give the Mewant steering wheel cover a go, so purchased it directly from Mewant and it took approximately 2-2.5wks to arrive.

I fitted the cover whilst the steering wheel was still attached and I'm pleased with the results. It took me just over 2hrs to fit.

The attached photo does show the crease on the left hand side more obviously, than it shows in reality, it's where the original wheel has some stitching. Other than that, it's added a nice amount of thickness to the wheel now too 👍
