Hi guys,

Looking at a '17 M3 Comp manufactured end of 2016 (delivery January 2017). According to data online it should have a NBT Evo system although it has no touch screen - i guess that arrived with the '18 models?

Android Auto is a must for me so If pulling the trigger I'd be getting this unit but I wondered how easy it is to control Android Auto/Carplay without an actual touch screen? Seems like entering address or picking points would be a bit of a pain??

Let me know how non-touch users are getting on with this.

Have you installed the Andream unit as well? Did you upgrade to the latest version or the system by default comes with the latest firmware version?

Do I need to be aware of any other issues?

rayn3 : Have you already installed or planning to install one, if you are planning to which one you are going with.

As per my understanding and other reviews, all these Chinese systems would be using the same product underneath and it will not make much difference, in any case, please suggest a good unit with your experiences.

I have another question, does the directions for navigation show in HUD and Dashboard when we use Waze or google maps from carplay?

Also, any other learnings which we should be aware of prior to installing these units? I am doing this first time hence a bit nervous .

You are welcome. I don't think any displays from the carplay/AA will be sent back to the dashboard or HUD. The way it works is the box acts as a middleman to either send its own video signal to the CID screen or passes the HU signal.

iDrive mode: HU ----video signal------> Box (passive)----HU video signal---->CID
CarPlay mode: HU---(video dropped by MMI)---|||Box (Active)---MMI video signal---->CID

Other learnings: (1) You'll need to find the right place to put the box, either behind the HU or next to the glovebox. (2) Some wire connectors are a lot harder to take off than what the YT videos may suggest. (3) You may need to enable AUX by coding if you have an older head unit (no need for NBT).

QQ, do these units automatically switch to the AUX input when you engage CarPlay?

I'm really debating between one of these units or the full Android touchscreen headunits (that replace the iDrive screen).

I currently have the Android touchscreen unit (12.3" HD display) and it changes over to AUX automatically, but the rest of the integration is a bit clunky so I'm considering returning it and just getting an MMI box. I lose the touchscreen, which is nice, but the MMI box might just integrate better.

No but the idrive remembers what you have set. So if you have aux active and switch to idrive for something. Aux will keep playing back and forth. If you select antenna radio. It keeps playing antenna radio if you switch back to mmi screen.

I've tried reaching out to the sales@carlinkit.com email. They were always responsive in the past, but are no longer replying. I've also noticed that I haven't seen any updates for their BMW NBT box for quite a long time on the first page of this thread.

So wondering... did I miss something, or did they go away?

Android Auto or Apple Carplay is made for voice commands. But if you like can also pin point destinations.

Im in touch with aiocoai (andream) on ali, and the keep me busy. Although i had older firmware on the box they did not give me the latest version. (I directly asked for it)
They ask for movie, try other phone, reinstall waze... etc...

I used the same USB drive I've always used.
I formatted the drive on a Mac using Disk Utility.
I did the normal process, it just happened to work. Unfortunately, I have no clue why it worked this time and not the others.

I just updated my RoadTop carplay unit as shown in the photos. The password accepted was for the Andream (2863) so I am a bit confused. Seems to work fine. Also changed the cp_back.png and logo.bmp files thanks to Lohout. Thanks guys.

I luckily got my Carlinkit with v9.2.10 preinstalled, and when I asked for a copy of the firmware they (technical support) gave me every possible excuse not to send it... "Why do you need it? if everything works what do you need it then for? we don't recommend you downgrade to 9.2.9 and then go back to 9.2.10..." there was no way of getting that file from them, I gave up eventually.

Carlinkit technical/customer support is a disaster but on the other hand sales team is great. People who followed my story know that I first got a faulty unit (OEM backup camera was not displaying on CID, the rest was fine), and since technical support was of no help I ended up contacting the sales team and asking for a replacement unit. They've sent a new device next day and it arrived in just 3 days. I only needed to pay a deposit of 70 Euros and was promised I would get the money back as soon as they receive the faulty device. Well the new unit worked great (small issue with incoming calls but I've found a workaround) and today it finally happened, they got the faulty device and I got my money back, so sales guys were really great.

The only bad thing is that I guess we won't be getting v9.2.11 from Carlinkit officially once it's out

Hi guys , is there anyone who had retrofitted 8.8” screen(so before was 6.5”) and together with any Carplay MMI fitted aftermarket rear view camera too without any problem for camera view ??

It would be reeeeeally helpful if anyone exists because i have this set up but I have tried two different brand MMI until now and on both of them doesn’t work rear view camera with 8.8 display(works only factory pdc) but on both of them working normally with 6.5” display...
