Warning Message "Cruise Control Malfunction"

I have 2017 330 XI. My car was couple of days out of warranty. Started getting the message "Cruise Control Malfunction". Took it to the dealership they said Steering Column Switch Cluster needs replacement. Total cost - $1325.

They refused to do anything under warranty. Has anyone had this issue before? I am thinking of getting replaced by a local shop that I trust (Fast of West Chester) and not take it to the dealership. Would love to get thoughts on if this is the right way to do. This is my first BMW, let me know what you think I should go guys.
