442M Alloy Wheel Corrosion

BMW had a look at my alloys as part of the end of warranty check today, they said they would replace the rears free of charge, which incidentally aren't even corroding:

But due to curbing greater than 3/8ths of the rim on the fronts they want a 20% contribution towards them! £310 incl. VAT to replace the fronts which I think is a bit harsh, I mean I've hardly taken chunks out of the rim, just slight curb rash:

I tried to argue the fact that the damage had nothing to do with the corrosion which stems from the centre cap area, but they said BMW required a flat 20% contribution towards the replacement, I tried haggling and couldn't get them down, any other ideas? I'm in two minds whether to get them done or not.

In fact, if I cut the wheel up into 8ths myself, I can see the damage on both doesn't exceed 3/8ths on either of the front alloys..

Is this worth arguing with BMW UK?

Garage List
I'd say you're getting a good deal.

I recently had two of my 442s replaced under warranty and had to contribute 20% towards one of them which was £110+vat, had to also replace the centre caps. According to the dealer these are the cause as they retain water after washing and are not covered under warranty.

Interesting, so my quote of £310 for the front two including VAT is a bit more than what you guys have paid, so there is some haggle room. I feel like arguing the toss simply because the service guy specifically said if more than 3/8ths of the rim is curbed they ask for a 'contribution' but in my defence, I wouldn't say more than 3/8ths is damaged (cumulatively).

Sounds pretty fair deal to me.

Re. 3/8ths. The first picture I’d say you’ve pretty much marked out 3/8ths yourself and missed kerbing at 5 o clock. The second picture you’ve marked out less than 3/8ths but have missed out 6 to 8 o clock.

Sorry for giving the wrong answer but you did ask (!) and to my mind nobody is being unfair on you here. Look at it for what it is - a replacement of your 3 year old (kerbed) alloys for £310. You’d not be far away from that paying for a refurb job!

I think you are getting a good deal. I paid £150 via BMW to have a wheel refurbed with minor kerbing of about 4" length. You are getting £2.5k worth of wheels for £310 and they are well and truly kerbed.
