Security light torment

Anybody had this issue before? My security light at the side of the house, a lovely LED one to replace the old one which worked well but needed a new halogen bulb but they’re old tech now so I replaced.

The problem is the flue from the boiler is right underneath and is setting the fucking thing off so much that if I had epilepsy I’d be frothing now.

What a pain in the ass, obviously I can’t move the flue but can I fit a separate PIR so it’s away from the steam?

More pipe work on my beautifully rendered walls, no thanks, I’m OCD with this stuff.

Separate PIR is your easy answer.

Strange how your old light never had this issue... unless it didnt have a PIR.

I also have this issue.... but more an up and down wall light as the steam drops; and my side camera which picks it up as movement.

Could you not mask off an area of the sensor?

No, the solution is to get my big daft mate to go up the ladder and do it for me.

We had the same problem caused by the fiue for the combi boiler, which was about 4 feet to the side of the light. Masking didnt work either.
The light sensor was smashed off in an attempted break in and the police suggested mounting the security light higher so it couldn’t be reached. We ended up putting two lights on that side but higher up. One of the lights is directly above the flue now but due to the height no longer gets triggered because you’ve run some hot water.

I'm now on to my 3rd light, this time with a stand alone PIR placed at the same level as the flue on the other side of the door with the idea that steam rises right?

Wrong, we live really high up and it's always pretty windy, the way our house is angled creates a wind tunnel with next door so blows the steam horizontally straight on to the PIR.

FM fucking L

The light I've bought is go big or go home so now it's like an epileptic's nightmare, on off, on off, on off, on off.................................

I was busy when my mate came, he drilled my render and fitted it using his flawed logic.

I'm pissed off.

I don't do DIY. Can't even hang a picture. But, could you buy an extension or new flue pipe that goes upwards by a foot or so?

Next job on the list, I’m thinking if I keep throwing cash at it then eventually it’ll get sorted!

Microwave sensor. instead of the PIR. The sort they use in convertibles. Not affected by wind etc.

Install a plume kit to direct the flue products of combustion away from the PIR.

This would need to be carried out be a registered gas safe enginner.

Screwfix do one for lighting control just like a typical PIR design but microwave. Code 8029R for £12.99.
