It's Sygic. I managed to get on the beta last year so it didn't cost anything. The realtime traffic updates are really accurate (I think it uses data from TomTom). I think they've overpriced it for general users - shouldn't charge at all for the CarPlay feature IMO.

Installed the Unique-AD wireless solution last Friday and had 4 days testing

It's installed on my F30 with pro nav and i've used wired and wireless

Currently using wireless now and had a few problems getting both the BT paired ( Idrive and Carplay )

They appear to have delayed the WiFi sync which allows the iPhone to pair with idrive BT first. Then it detects the Carplay unit via WiFi and then fires up Carplay

So currently able to use Carplay audio and BT idrive for telephone. When using the telephone in Carplay its using the BT idrive and so using the BMW MIC

You only then need the new external mic for SIRI

Does that mean when you make or receive calls you leave the CarPlay interface and go into the i-drive interface? Does the phone app in CarPlay still initiate the calls? Is this the recommended setup or is it recommended to only pair it to the unichip box and not i-drive bluetooth (like the wired versions)?

Thanks for sharing this.

What is the current status of the issues you are experiencing if you are not using Carplay MIC?

There is an ongoing post regarding Unique AD (and Joyeauto) if you don't mind to continue the discussion over there.

Whilst driving the car I'm in CarPlay mode

The iPhone rings and it comes up using CarPlay

If I press the Idrive wheel down on the green answer icon it answers but I can't hear anything. The other person can but when I look at my iPhone screen its showing that the audio output is CarPlay, but I cant hear anything

Remember I'm using both the BT Idrive and CarPlay wireless both paired. So when the phone rings whilst in CarPlay it also shows on the dashboard and I just press answer on the steering wheel and that answers the phone call using Idrive and the output is Idrive BMW BT and works perfectly

The carplay shows that I have answered the call and its going via the BMW BT and using the OEM mic

I can drop the call with CarPlay red icon. I can make calls with either Idrive or steering wheel.

You can also make calls using CarPlay

good info. thanks. Just so I'm clear... if you answer a call using the round iDrive button, the call is answered, you just can't hear anything. But if you answer a call via the button on the steering wheel, everything works?

Yes it appears to work this way

But you can have both BT paired which is good news. I wanted to use the OEM mic and this works.

Looks like the external mic is only for SIRI

Would "Hey Siri" work if you enabled it on the phone which probably then uses the phone's mic?

I installed the mic behind the rear view mirror and you can't see it

Takes 5 minutes to install and push cable down the A pilar

I wasn't keen on using it and when I heard that the unit came with an external mic it put me off. But honestly its fine and installed correctly it doesn't show

You can still use the OEM BMW mic for phone calls and that was noise cancellation so much better and cleaner sound for the other person on the call

Thanks for the advice Mr. Moderator. I clearly didn't think of that when I posted in it's own "unique thread."

Yeah, re-directing people to my thread in the Unique CarPlay discussion. Or can't you read that?

Anybody have any luck reaching unichip tech support recently? Have not been able to get help since an update they gave me caused the “menu” button on the i drive controller to stop working I. CarPlay.

The cause of my problem was most likely lint in the lightening port of my iPhone (a toothpick pulled out wads of it). However, whilst investigating this, Unichip provided me with a firmware and software update, which if you don't already have, I would highly recommend!!!

I've always found the brightness of CarPlay to be just a little too bright which can sometimes make it difficult to see side/minor roads when navigating. The latest software update now includes a brightness menu option which makes the clarity of the display just perfect (I like level 3).

I've included some photos to try and show the difference (it's even better with the naked eye). You'll know if you have the newer firmware because the "connect device" screen includes both the CarPlay and Android auto icons (the earlier firmware only includes CarPlay).

If, like me you prefer a darker screen I'd suggest dropping support a message for the new files. Updating was a doddle - just copy to USB following their instructions and plug it into the box.
Pardon my ignorance, but there is no documentation on how to access the settings, so how do I get to the settings screen? Short or long pressing '7' doesn't seem to do anything. I do have the box with the Android Auto/Carplay icon like yours. Thanks in advance.

it's a VERY long press of '7' and that should do it. you can also VERY long press '5' to get the current firmware versions you are on. the latest firmware did indeed improve the brightness/contrast settings, but unfortunately there is a black stripe at the top of the display now.
also, their support is very hit and miss. I was getting emails, not the only way they reply is via the website.

Edit: some buttons stopped working but after the car went to sleep for the night, the buttons are all working now. Most stable release I’ve had for my unichip. They sent me some janky betas riddles with problems.

also, I'm about ready to give up on this unichip box and switch over to the joyeauto wireless CarPlay box when it is released for CIC, which should be any day now.

I just installed the unichip CarPlay for my 2015 with entrynav (and 10.25" screen from x5). I also installed a rear view camera to it as well. Overall I'm very happy with it (got it used for cheap). Does what it is supposed to do. Sound quality is a lil crappy in comparison to idrive. I think it's the aux cable, but I feel any system that uses the aux will sound the same. My rear view camera works well too ($30something on amazon), but the lines are too narrow for the car. This may be because of my larger screen? Anyone know if the lines can be disabled or even adjusted??
