LED turn signals. What's the appeal?

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but what is the appeal of LED turn signals? This is an honest question. Is there a functional advantage? They kinda look like wasp hives to me. The plastic brow looks like it's made of tupperware. And rear LED turn signals look like christmas lights.

Please enlighten me. No pun intended.

Pros:
brighter, sharper light that turns on and off almost instantly compared to incandescent lights. and they last longer.

For one, I don't really care about turn signals, but I really wish the brake lights were LED. LED lights light up much quicker and in the world of braking, those 200ms might be more than few feet.

You still use turn signals?

The LEDs are brighter and easier to see...especially in daylight. For example, you can very easily see the Audi's front and rear LED lights even on a bright sunny day.

Thus, they increase safety by making your car easier to see when in braking. Suppose to help avoid collision.

The Audi LEDs are always very cool in my opinion and agg to the cars over all design. Always tastefully integraded....but with EDGE.

However, many of the "copy cats"...especially Chrysler and Lexus...the LEDs look like cheap aftermarket.

Never the case with Audi.

Have you seen the all LED headlights on the new A6, A7, and A8...very very cool.

You can see them a mile away.

My case rests.

Most people like the way they look and are willing to pay extra for them. I see you are an exception, you may be able to save some money on your next car by buying a car that has filament bulb turn signals.

Nah. I like LEDs. Most every other application that uses lights, I prefer LEDs over filament bulbs (except the reading lights in my den). But to me, the application of old school stuff is some times elevated to an art form. Take for example the filament bulbs for tail lights. To spread the light out most effectively, the designers of the reflectors had to really work at making it functional and beautiful. The result has been some stunning designs that some times identified a brand of car. It seems that some LED applications just seem like function over form. Some times they look like bug hives. Some times they look amazing. Like the BMW angel eyes or the new Audi lights... they are beautiful.

But I'm still baffled by the tupperware look on the brows.

+1
replacement bulbs are dirt cheap. even OEM bulbs won't break the bank.
OEM LEDs are quite pricey, it being new technology.

i remember reading somewhere that Audi front LEDs are replaced as an assembly and costs approx $700

if leasing, LED wins. if keeping the car for 10 years, preference wins

I think you answer your own question, Some LED are art form and some are ugly, same for filament bulb tail lights.
