Why is estoril blue considered a special color?

I love it, I was just wondering if there was some kind of significance or history to it?

It used to be exclusive to M cars in the past.

It's been used before and I saw it on a 135 M-Sport a couple of weeks ago. In the sunshine the metallic flecks really glisten and looks even better than in any photo.

Estoril is a small town in Portugal and has a motorsport racing circuit that was used for Formula 1 in the 80's and 90's.

BMW have a history of naming some of their paint colours after racing circuits from around the world.

All M-specific colors are (should be) named after circuits.

Even moving onto non M cars, like the new Melbourne Red. Named after our F1 GP here in my little sleepy town down under.

It was first introduced on the E9X M3, so it was a M-specific color at first.
