Question Fuel Additive for Petrol F30 N20 engine?

Hi,

Could someone please suggest a good Fuel Additive for Petrol F30 N20 engine? Also my car is only 2.5 years old still under manufacturers warranty so putting a fuel additive does this invalidate my warranty if something goes wrong? please advise?

Regards,

Satish

+1 on the Techron. Use a bottle in the last tank leading up to my 5k oil service. Obviously using BMW brand wouldn't be a bad option. Would have to assume they have similar formulas, but who knows.

BMW's additive is a fully approved product, so no warranty issues.

I'd bet that the BMW additive has the same ingredients as Techron, it may even be re-labeled Techron, at 3 times the price.

Think about it for a moment... why would BMW make a fuel system cleaner that would void the warranty on it's own cars?

From what I've read BMW's additive contains Kerocom PIBA 03 from BASF.

My thinking, exactly.

That is logical, but some posters may object.

E.g. a thread in the other forum says (now discontinued) Castrol rebranded BMW High Performance 5W30 does not meet BMW's own LL01 spec.

Maybe not now, as BWM has moved on to a different supplier, Shell the last I knew. BMW doesn't own a refinery, nor AFAIK a petrochemical plant, so just because it has the BMW label on the container doesn't mean BMW makes it. They source it, and as with all things sourced it can be found under a different name from the original manufacturer, most likely at a lower price. Caveat Emptor.

Would you guys agree that the LL01 specification is only relevant if you are running long durations between oil changes?

Another way put, if you are religiously changing oil every 5k then the LL01 factor would not come into play?

I am using Mobil 1 0W-40 as recommended by owners manual which must be LL01... just wondering what you guys thought otherwise?

Since LL01 is available at local Walmart, there is no reason not to grab one.

Having said that, latest M1 FS 0W-40(GTL) does not have LL01, but it has MB 229.5, which goes toe to toe(closely) with even LL01FE!

So, say, for $22-$25 5 Qt, go grab a jug with LL01 + MB229.5, if not available, then grab a MB229.5(those are available off the shelf here).

Same size, shape and color container. Appears to be just relabeled Chevron Techron under BMW Label. Been using Techron in my BMWs for years without issue and clean injectors, etc at substantial savings.

To the original poster - why do you feel you need a fuel treatment? If you're using top-tier gasoline you shouldn't need an additive.
