2012 F30 335i Totaled, a sad day
On one cold fall morning last month I was driving to work, uncharacteristically slower than usual, when a red volvo XC70 decided to turn into oncoming traffic at an intersection. Thankfully she saw me at the last minute and left me just enough room to swerve around her and avoid a head on impact.
As soon as I got around the front of her car though I saw a Toyota Venza at a dead stop about 10 yards in front of me. I skidded into the back/under carriage of the Toyota at maybe 20 mph. Because the 335 went under the Venza the motor took the brunt of the impact, breaking all the motor mounts, including the exhaust mounts and Transmission mounts. Damaged the transmission and the firewall. I only suffered a mild concussion, but that didn't stop every airbag from going off haha, I have to say BMW assist works pretty well though it took them a minute to contact me. It's taken a month to go through the process but my insurance finally totaled the car. Guess that means it's time to upgrade? New project coming next week! '14 535 xdrive! Anyone need any parts from the F30? I have sport mats, black whiskers, sport grilles, chip, etc PM me.

Damn...I'm glad for you they totaled it but I'm surprised the damage costs more than the total value of the car. And nice pick up of the 5 series, my favorite mid-sized sedan by far!

If you involve engines and or transmissions on these car it goes from a few thousands to $10-15-20-25k rather easily. An N55 long block is something like $15k.

How much are they giving you for the car? I always figured they'd low ball the 'totaled' value so that if you totaled a year old $60k car, they'd end up giving you $40k or something, not exactly making you 'whole'.

total is a different calculation. total does NOT mean 100%. one other way it can also be totaled is if the structural integrity is or electrical is compromised. its not always something that can be seen. example: like if your car got flooded by rain and was submerged. it wont look damaged but they will still total it and give you a salvage title if you opted to keep it. what they usually go by is the current value of the car if you were to get the same exact car on today's market with similar options and mileage. small differences will be adjusted accordingly like mileage and an option or two. they always get the lowest priced car out there for comparison. once you get the value they see how much the car is going to cost to repair. if the value is 51% or more of the current value of a similar car, you are then TOTALED. so if you bought your car at $58K new, your current value maybe around 32K - 40k now. all you need is to have damages over half of these amounts and your totaled. |

Thanks for the concern everyone, I've felt terrible about it for the last month.
Let me try to address some of the questions/concerns: - The car was totaled because of firewall and transmission damage. The car was structurally sound but the motor and transmission took the hit and that's why financially speaking the car was a 'total loss'. - The Ins. company messed up and over estimated the value of my 2012 RWD 335i w/ 32k on it and said it was worth 42k... I even told them to revise it lower, they wouldn't... The car was a lease and the buyout was only 40k so after the deductible I'm getting a check for over a grand... All in all a pretty good day since I was way over my lease miles. - A Carbon Black '14 535 is on it's way to me as we speak (hopefully this week)! I went a little option happy though... It's going to be sick! haha

The car has already been taken away, I only have the accessory parts that I paid to put on the car. I'm not parting it out, just selling whats left over.
