My 328i F30 is making a weird rattle noise when accelerating at slow speeds up to around 25mph.
It's usually heard when the car passes by parked cars the sounds seems to echo off of the other cars. It's sounds like loose pieces of flimsy metal hitting each other when I press the acceleration.

Anyone know what this is?
Could this be something with the timing chain?
Or is this a non serious issue?

My first thought is an exhaust clamp or something along the exhaust somewhere.

I don't have a custom exhaust but I'm thinking about something for it actually because the engine in the n20 sounds horrible like a tractor.

My mods are Bilstein shocks and struts and H&R Sport springs. (Don't by previous owner) I actually want a more comfortable ride lol was thinking about tasing it.

I went to my mechanic today who had done work on my previous cars including an X5. He drove around and listened and said it's likely a heat shield or something loose that isn't a major issue.

I made an appointment to come in when he has time next Monday.

No but its only heard when I drive past part cars or in like an echoey tunnel.

Exhaust pipe flap/valve in the back (search it's been discussed many many times and most likely that's it) if not the turbo wastegate.

I've got a funny noise like this too, it's super noticeable when driving by parked cars or a wall, it sounds sorta like an exhaust leak to me. I have a catless DP, stock MP, and Dinan axleback. So I can rule out the exhaust valve since I don't have one

I've got a similar problem but I have a 320i instead, so no exhaust flap in the back. Sound is coming from the engine bay.

I had a similar noise from my 428 when accelerating in gears 1-3 and it was a broken plastic guide for the emergency brake cable. $8 part but $260 to drop the driveshaft, heatshields etc to replace it. I'm glad it wasn't more serious.

Could be the wastegate arm chattering. You can see it vibrating.

Anyone have solution for this rattling ?
I have f30 320i wiht n20, after replacing timing chain and both vanos units.

There is strange rattling noise only when pressing throttle and it seems to come from engine bay. It happens even when only gently touching throtlle, rpms are not even increasing much, but there is rattling. And when throttle is released, it suddenly dissapear everytime.
There is no any errors, car is driving completely normal, only this rattling....

Sounds like a Exhaust flap problem or Waste-gate rattle

My 2013 f30 335i (pneumatic waste-gate) has started to make this "ticking" or "rattling" noise upon startup. It also has started making a "metallic rattling" or "metallic vibrating" noise when accelerating from a stop.

I've attached videos where you can hear the rattling upon startup and another one where you can CLEARLY hear the metallic vibration at 2k-3k rpm's when accelerating.

PLEASE ADVISE if you have any ideas of what this might be.

I have a similar issue. Not sure how serious it is. Does anyone know what it could be?
