Is the Front Windshield Upper Moulding Seal necessary?
I have a 2013 320D and when I bought it had the decaying front moulding seal which is common issue.
I have completely remove the upper and side moulding and cleaned as good as it can be and to be honest looks like it shouldn't even be there and looks ok without it. What is peoples on that? I have the replacement ready to go but I am hesitant as I feel at some point I will have to remove the new one due to the same issue. I have driven the car at highway speed without and change in wind reduction, so is it even necessary to have it installed? Thoughts? |

It's not uncommon for some seals & weatherstripping to deteriorate over time with sun, heat, chemicals, etc. It looks to me like something's missing on the car without the seals. If you've already purchased the replacements why not install them? It's your choice, ultimately.

If it didn't serve a purpose BMW wouldn't have put it there. It should last the life of the car, but as I understand it from a friend in NZ you folks Down Under deal with a much higher level of UV than we do, so it's critical to treat anything that can degrade on a regular basis.

I use 303 Protectant on all my rubber parts, including the door/window weatherstripping and anything else that's rubbery.

Any advice on removal/replacement of the upper windshield seal? I've done it on the E90 but the F30 one is a fair bit smaller. |
