All very strange given they were all saying she did. I suspect they know that this "Special arrangement" they had for the Intel staff and families would not stand up in Court.

I can understand they are worried about setting precedent for diplomatic immunity.

In my view the best way out of this for the USA would be to judge and sentence her as though this happened on US soil. I'd have thought most would be happy with this solution, and it doesn't have the same impact in terms of precedent.

It would not set precedent as she does not have Dip immunity. She was never registered at the Court of St James as per normal protocol. There was a made up arrangement which has now come unstuck. I dont believe the trial you suggest would have a legal basis in the US. She needs to come back to UK and i suspect Nothhants Police will seek her extradition now.

There is no way the USA will send her to have any justice in the UK. At best if she has to face any justice, it will be on USA ground

I see the parents are flying out to the US
Mistake in my opinion.
Kinda feels like they are letting her off lightly!

I don't think they're 'letting her off' at all. Quite the reverse. And smartly, they've said they won't meet with her unless she commits to returning to the UK i.e.: she doesn't get the opportunity to clense her soul and portray herself as someone with morals.

I must say, if I were in this woman's situation, I can't say that I wouldn't have done exactly what she did.

I'd feel terrible about what I had caused, but I'm pretty sure I'd consider my situation from another country behind whatever protections I had.

Agreed, and even more so for her as a mother. I'm sure she regrets what happened, and is embarrassed at her running. But, I bet the mother gene definitely took over. Hardly as if a shady CIA dad, or whatever he is, is going to be much of a hands on father if she gets locked up.

Plus, I accidentally drove on the wrong side of the road for a hundred yards in France once, and after a long drive from Chesterfield to Northern France I looked the wrong way at a roundabout and narrowly missed a bus. Unfortunately it happens quite a lot.

I made a couple of mistakes, that I know many have and I could have easily done the same as her if I'd been unlucky enough to have someone coming the other way.

It is super sad and I feel for the family, I can't imagine losing a son. In fact I can imagine it, and it's awful. But, she isn't a criminal, she didn't intentionally do this. And as much as the family are saying that they wouldn't push for a custodial sentence, but a suspended one, they don't get to make that decision.

And if they don't want her locked up, why go through it all? They could maybe get closure another way, but definitely away from the pantomime and the fool at the White House.

The American woman appears to have gone from being at fault for a tragic accident to in my mind becoming a criminal.
She's making it much harder for the parents and must be advised to help repair this.
