F3x DME Lock !?

I know that some (many) B58 DMEs are being locked, but the information so far, including from MHD, was that that does not apply to the F3x!

Now, for the first time, I noticed a post in the MHD Facebook group by a 2017 340i owner who claims that his DME is locked and is looking for a solution!?

Is there now a locking of F3x's DMEs ongoing, since when and is it in all regions?

Note, no * across F3x...

I thought I read somewhere that if BMW updates your software to the latest version on a 2018 or older then that could lock the DME

I believe it's younger than 2018. Someone here said their 2016 340 got locked with an update last summer. I had mine in for final service in March 2020 which pre-dated the lock, so I was lucky.

Some people have had their DME's locked when they were taken in to update from 3G.

There are 2 different types of locks at the moment:
1. Updated software that can be bench unlocked (all F3x).
2. 2021 (June/July 2020 prod) that have the new Bosch ECU. There is not an unlock available at the moment.

If your F3x gets the updated software from BMW, you'll need to have it bench unlocked by a reputable shop. At least this is how I understand it, I could be wrong. But not much alarming chatter in the Bootmod3 enthusiast group on FB about it.

So if you already have a tune, next time @BMW it will get locked again and you once again need bench unlocking!?

You can always tell your rep to forgo the DME update. That's what I do, but my dealership already knows my car is modded.

My 17 340 is now locked after 3G update. Lucky me it doesn't start anymore either after a flash fail.

It would be very valuable if you provide information about WHEN it got locked (last visit to dealership) or even better - which iStep?

Last visit - 2 days ago. The 3g tech update is fairly new.

No. Service invoice lists the upgrade as a software update. They did program the ECU though.

I'm picking up my new used 2017 340 from the dealer this weekend. Sounds like there is a good chance it's locked. Is there a way to tell?

Yes. Just like when I took my car to the dealership for warranty to replace the eccentric shaft and the valvetronic motor. Software got updated too.

Yeah, but there are a lot of people that are tuned and still going in for "maintenance".

I avoid the dealer like the plauge.

On the telematics upgrade...do you happen to know if that's a HW upgrade to ID 5 or 6?
