Doubt about the exhaust manifold N20 428i
Hello everyone, I tell you, I have Stage 1 on my N20, 91oct BM3, with Stock Cat and a changed exhaust line, Remus intermediate and MPE finish.
The other day I made a hard run with the car and I realized that it stopped making burbles, in that case I know that the EGT is measuring 900ºC, it took more than 1 min to return the burbles, and when I stopped I looked at the exhaust manifolds and They were incandescent red, not totally since they had cooled down quite a bit, recently I did another run again and the same a little red the exhaust manifolds. I imagine it is normal, but I would like to know your opinion. A greeting. |

Let's see, when I make a hard run with my car for example about 2 min or so taking it to the cut of rpms in each gear, until approx 5 gear, then I see that the exhaust manifolds have turned bright red, I imagine which is normal after applying a strong load, right?

If you're really ripping on the car, then yes, this is normal for your manifold/turbo housing to glow red a bit. I wouldn't be doing that sort of heat cycle often though.

Your cat is the restriction and that is what makes it glow red. Remove the cat and you should see far better temps and your engine and turbo will last way longer as well!

I've read on multiple posts that having your car tuned, making 'burbles' on a stock cat is bad. To at least upgrade to a high flow cat at the very least. The back pressure from the cat restriction is what's making your turbo/manifold glow and that will boil your oil into sludge.
