Awesome DIY.

Question: anyone have advice on removing the factory footrest/dead pedal to install the M footrest that replaces it rather than just stick on top of it?

My advice is to get the recommended no-drill, they're far less expensive, easy to install, and look just as good.

I am glad I found this forum as I wanted to upgrade to the M Performance pedals but thought it was going to be too hard, however reading the guides on here with the clear photo's has given the confidence to give it a go....

Thanks for taking the time to post it.

A few comments to the otherwise useful DIY above:

1. The 'star pattern' is called a Torx Bit. The brake pad screws can be tightened with a T-15 torx. The nut on the back was held in place with a 7mm socket.
2. The three brake pad FINAL drill hole sizes were made with a 5/32 drill bit. After using a dremel to pilot the hole, I started with a 1/8, then 9/64, then finished with 5/32.
3. The drill hole for the gas pedal I used was 3/32. Nice and snug screws again tightened with a T-15 Torx.

Hope this helps.

This was incredibly helpful as well as OP post. Install in about 30 minutes. Looks great!

No kidding! it took me less than 5 minutes to put these on... and they look and feel great! Frustration level was pretty much zero... super easy. Car is M-sports so the OEM stainless dead pedal was already there... these have the exact same patterns, minus the etched M logo.

Another happy camper here with the BMW Performance pedal and foot rest install (all OEM).

Tips to those attempting the mod:
- 4mm drill bit in titanium is recommended for final size for the brake pedal for automatic (whatever that in inches, I believe similar above but wanted to write it in metric).
- for sure smaller than bolts drill bit like 1.5mm or so for gas pedal (too big - it will spin, and mine sort of spins but holds in place, given there is tape it is fine, but - not great)

Also - dunno longevity of replica pedals on brake pedal specifically as you should at all times be able to smash that pedal with full power in emergency braking. My concern is reps are only glued on, and with heated climates, and after may be 5-7 years they start peeling. Bolts wont allow this.

Mine still look like new two years in, with no drilling required.

Sure thing! But 2 years is too little to tell. I would say 5 years, hot climate, then we can be better sure. I think it is fine, but just something to mention. I think OEM are too expensive, I got mine on sale btw. So frankly my policy is always OEM, but never at full MSRP.

You seem to think they glue on. They don’t. The brake pad attaches just like the factory rubber pad you are taking off. Benefit, they don’t have bolts to come loose, lol. Car companies have been doing them the same way for the last 60+ years.
Also the throttle sits atop it and actually evens out the pedal depth difference, I rather appreciate that. If they survive 160f days, which they did jsut fine for two years, you don’t have to worry.

But if you want to 4x spend more and get drill ons, make sure you use threadlocker.

Well, I didnt spend 4x as I had mine on sale.

You also may not know this based on your comment, but the OEM gas pedal also fits over the original just like you say your knockoff does, so there is some consistency there in design (which makes sense). Dead pedal is also glue on, same way.

I think the only issue is drilling out the brake pedal - this is not a fun thing to do without right tools (i mean impossible really) and even the clean up of metal shavings isn't that fun either. Having said that, I had the tools, so it was ok but the tips here were useful in approaching this properly.

I reckon this kind of mod is important just to you, no one else. So we all approach with it our own experiences in mind. I have had a hit and miss with non OEM stuff. I had a knockoff spoiler on E90 that was superb, and also knockoff grilles on E90 that sucked.

I had good OEM exhaust tip covers for E90, and Im not sure Im thrilled with OEM exhaust tips on F30 ("m" logo also, what the heck). I think I draw the line somewhere based on value and how crucial it is to usage. With pedals, I figured I dont want the bloody thing to come off while driving (in emergency, you are supposed to slam the brake pedal with full power). Id hate smth there to fail and then it would be "of course it did, did you think Aliexpress pedals guy tested them to TÜV specifications, you idiot" moment.

It is good they fit for you and work. So some people coming here who are on the fence will go the copy route, and be safe in knowledge that for others it works and will save a few bucks. That's fine.

Exactly, for $29 bucks on Amazon they work great. I actually prefer the No drill approach.
