Maintenance Intervals (Sanity Check)

Hi guys, with autumn in the air, I am putting together my maintenance schedule for my 335i. As I was reviewing various information online, I came across this link to BMW TIS for our U.S. cars:

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...nce/1VnXeKuC44

My 335 is a 2015, so I believe the third row applies. The way I interpret the table yields the following service intervals:

Oil every 10k miles
Cabin air filter every 20k miles
Engine air filter every 50k miles
Spark plugs every 60k miles

Everything seemed reasonable except the engine air filter at 50k miles, which seems really high. I am also planning to change my oil every 7500k unless there is consensus that every 10k is all right. I usually make short trips anyway, so would rather be conservative.

Your thoughts and input appreciated.

I completely agree with you. On my NMS Passat, the recommendation was to change engine air filter every 20,000 miles. I change oil every 10K, engine and cabin filters every 20K, and on Passat TDI I also change fuel filter every 20K.

I probably would suggest changing air filter every 20K, since it is a cheap insurance.

I think the air filter is heavily depended on where you drive. If you drive by a construction area all the time, obviously it needs to be changed sooner. I just inspect it every oil change and look at its condition. Last time I checked it looked fine with some flower pollen on it, i just blow it off and put it back. It's not a big deal, you don't have to change it on a schedule like engine oil. Just use common sense.

Seems good to me and similar to what I have been getting done on my car. Perhaps a bit sooner on the engine air filter though - like, during every 4th oil change with each oil change coming in at 8k miles.

Maintenance Intervals (Sanity Check)

Some say that short trips are actually worse because it allows for less time for the oil to fully come to temp and flow properly throughout the engine. Haven't really thought about how this would/should/could affect intervals, but worth a consideration. I do mine every 5-6k. 7500 should be fine. 10k might be ok, but I personally wouldn't push it that far, then again, I'm in a high mileage car with plans on keeping it til it dies.

I am just surprised to see the recommended maintenance on an engine air filter to be 50,000 miles. Doesn't this seem like a lot of miles between changes?

Cut BMW Service Interval in half

Find the BMW interval and cut it in half.

Consider this a Severe Service Interval .
