passenger door doesnt lock when i press lock.
Hi i have a 2013 bmw 328i. so today i just found out that my passenger side door doesnt lock when you lock it. the knob is up so i pushed it down but that didnt work. I can still open the door from the outside. I dont hear any noise from the motor on the passenger side but i hear it on the other 3. Im not sure if its the door lock actuator or something else. where do i start? thanks

If you search "actuator" in this forum, you are going to find many posts. Seems BMW should have recalled this part, or issued a TSB.
But on a '13, you are likely on your own... Again, if you search, you will find DIY to replace. |

I hear that. It was a challenge finding the part. I ended up finding a salvage on eBay. Same year, same specs, same everything. It was easy to change!

looking to solve related problem by replacing actuators and saw same thing with pricing. I suppose it could be stock/demand? Anyway, going to try lubricating first - hoping to get some insight on what spots to lube. (My problem is pulling inside door latch doesn't fully unlock - have to use unlock button. Started with passenger and now driver - both periodic but passenger more often. If anyone reading... link to step by step lube and/or actuator replace?

DIY video. I have not taken apart a failing F30 actuator yet personally, but my experience with them in general is that they fail because the plastic gearing inside breaks. At first it may just be a small piece broken off causing it to hesitate or operate erratically. Eventually, more of it, or the entire gear itself breaks off, and they fail to function altogether. This is a design flaw on many modern actuators, and it stems from choosing cheaper plastic for the actuator internals that becomes brittle with age. To my knowledge there is no way to prevent it from happening other than not using the locks. They will just have to be replaced as they fail.
