2013 F30 Engine Coolant Low
Hi guys, I have a 2013 328i xDrive. So, there's a snowstorm since last night until this morning when I start up my car (temp was 22F) and the engine coolant low message pops in the dashboard and the iDrive, telling me to top it off. Side note, I bought this car 1 and a half month ago. My questions:
1. Is the weather causing this? 2. How do i check for any leaks? 3. Since am not flushing the whole coolant out and just top it off, should I buy and top if off with https://www.autozone.com/antifreeze-...20593_668546_0 or just get a distilled water from walmart? Thanks, guys I really appreciate it! |

Cold weather tends to cause these cars to throw that warning. Often, the coolant is just fine. As long as you don't see any leaks, there's nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't necessarily ignore the message. Check the level. Normally for that to trigger at the first sign of significant cold temperature change, your coolant level was probably a little low, but still in the normal range. If you need to top it off, I would use BMW or equivlant mixed at 50/50 with distilled water. Do not recommend just adding water, as doing so reduces the effectiveness of the antifreeze. Just my $0.02
