I have a 15 328 xdrive luxury edition w 18” tires. Should I go to 17” tires and rims for winter tires?

Been a while since there was any activity on this thread but in case Rudy is still monitoring I'm curious if 225/50R18's mounted on 18x8" will work on my M-Sport 328i.

It currently has 225/45/R18 and 255/40/R18 tires on staggered 8 and 8.5" rims but I have a lead on a set from a 5 series that appear they will work. Obviously the diameter is a bit larger which would cause a minor error in the speedometer but curious if anybody else has gone a size (~0.8") larger?

I recently purchased a 2014 335i xdrive with the Msport package. It has the 20" 405 style wheels and the Msport blue brakes. I plan to use this car in the winter, and currently it has summer tires on it. A quick search has told me that winter tires for the 20" wheels are a bit of an anomaly. Could anyone tell me what other sizes of wheels I could fit on the car? Also perhaps some recommendations of winter tires. I live in central Canada. Thanks in advance! I also found someone selling tires and wheels that are 225/45/18 95v XL that are Pirelli w240 Sottozero S2 and I'm wondering if those will fit maybe?
