F30 EDC to non-EDC questions
Hi all,
I own a 2013 f30 335i msport and I recently bought a set of Bilstein B8 Performance Plus struts paired with H&R sport springs. My car has EDC suspension and I am looking to delete it with the install of these new struts and springs. EDC compatible struts are entirely too expensive and I barely feel the EDC system working in my car anyway (my suspension has been blown out ever since I bought it, which is the reason I'm doing this). Anyway, if I am deleting the EDC function on my car, other than the EDC delete kit I bought, is there any other hardware that needs to be switched over/replaced/or changed when doing this job? I want to figure out what I should be buying before I go to install these parts. Thank you all |

F30_Drew, how many miles does your car have? Are you planning to keep your car for some time?
If shocks and springs are being replaced, these parts should be inspected and replaced if necessary: - Control arms - Bumpstops - Top hats Helpful thread https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1940845. See comments by johnung What prompted you to select H&R Sport springs? |

Are you sure that you have EDC suspension? Because you should definitely feel a difference between modes even with some of the shocks blown out. Double check that they weren't previously canceled out. You can check your vin on bimmer.work

I'm sure. I can see the EDC Module on my suspension and the vin lookup at the dealer says my vehicle is equipped with it. ECU was DINAN flashed in 2017 but the car definitely feels like its been flashed back to stock at some point.

Thanks for the advice on what to replace! I have a friend who is on H&R Sports and he really enjoys them. Have you had any experience with them? |

While some do like H&R Sport Springs, the physics of a stiffer springs + shorter shock travel cannot be changed. The ride can be bouncy. It's literally "your mileage may vary" situation. Have you driven your friend's car?

I've only ridden in, never drove. However, even with a new set of Bilstein B8s, you think that the mileage will matter? Also, In theory, wouldn't stiffer springs + shorter shock travel tighten up the suspension and cause it to move less? Maybe I'm terribly misinformed or uneducated lol, apologies.

- Compression cycle: how quickly the shock and the spring compress while encountering road imperfections. Stiffer springs + shorter shocks limit suspension travel. So when the limit is reached, the car will bounce upwards. If the road surface has multiple imperfections with little space between them, the car will bounce more frequently. For some drivers, this behavior is not desirable. Hence, "your mileage will vary", i.e. you may or may not find it acceptable. - Rebound cycle: how quickly the shock and the spring return to the original position to maintain suspension geometry Coilovers - depending on the brand and model - provide adjustable compression and / or rebound controls which are adjustable. So you can tune the suspension behavior to your preferences and roads driven in your area. |
