Uk MOT test shock absorbers
Here in the UK we have a yearly test to see if the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. A year ago the test passed but had an advisory of a slight misting of oil on one side of the rear shock absorber. A year on and the same outcome, slight misting off the rear shock, but it’s getting worse they said, there are no signs when driving it that anything is wrong, no suspension issues etc, my point is they want £400 to replace both rear shocks, but this company are known for creating problems which don’t exist. My question is, is it ok to just keep driving the vehicle as it is, seeing as I am experiencing no issues at all

I had adaptive shocks on my e34 M5 that had 6 years of misting advisories.
BMW warranty (MOT insurance) wouldn't replace them unless they failed, as they considered some misting 'normal'. But that was 30 years ago, so things might have changed Ultimately they're a consumable part, and not that expensive in the grand scheme of things...but I'd definitely go aftermarket if you end up replacing them (and don't lower the car if you live anywhere with speed bumps/cushions). |

6 years of misting advisories says that they worked perfectly for 6 years without replacing them. I’ll take my chances until I see or feel they need replacing, like I said there are no issues at the moment, and if they were that bad they would have failed the test. Thanks guys
