I’ll echo your thanks to 328dX for his persistence. Well done!
For myself, the spring info will be useful first. My f31 is a long way from needing struts - and my wallet ain’t exactly ready either. Not sure how springs with stock struts will work, but I’ll share whenever it happens. |

I would def want the lower front one of the two kits as I do carry strollers, etc in the back frequently. And also because I don’t want to have to run the M Sport front spoiler like everyone else. |

Of course, now I'm all about going the "make your own spring kit" route from various OE springs, but I realize that's too much effort for most people who just want a quick OTS option.

My preference is a front ride height in the 14-14.5" range (hub to fender). and 13.75-14" rear.
Since most cheaper coilovers don't let you pick spring rates, I like getting there using used OE springs from other models like F80/82/87s, or M-Perf kits for the front, and in the rear by piecing together a height adjustable setup that uses cheap conventional coilover springs and picking my spring rate. That can also be achieved with cheap used OE springs, but they may be a bit difficult to find (like from an F83), or not really any cheaper than the HAS setup (like with M-Perf springs). For dampers, B6/B8 work decently in the front with F8x and higher spring rates, but the rear B6/8 are overdamped with almost everything. I haven't looked into how a B6/8 front and Koni Red/Yellow rear might do.

Ok, Stupid question. What shocks or coilovers, bump stops, rocker bars.... does BMW have on their Track Handling Pack F31's? Why wouldn't BMW just sell them OEM. I'm sure it would be bookoo bucks, but you'd think BMW would come up with some sort of BMW performance set?

I installed HR springs on my OE shocks (adaptive track handling pack) with shorter bump stops. The ride quality is great. Not bouncy in any way. I also have an e92 M3 that I have tested a bunch of different suspensions on. Currently running Ohlins TTX. I know when a suspension is "bouncy", mismatched dampening with spring rate, etc. I have certainly experienced it. I was pleasantly surprised with the results from this simple HR spring. Full disclosure - the F31 is my daily, I don't track or hit the canyons hard with that car. If so, I would upgrade to a true coilover.

The closest way to replicate the M-perf suspension for the RWD F31 on a US 328/330i or 328d is to get the M-perf springs for the 340i/330d RWD F31, rear dampers from that kit, and Bilstein B8 front struts.

328dx, this thread has been a huge help. I'm doing the same to my wagon now, springs on order, but I'm trying to figure out which PN to use for the special actives. The online catalog has PNs for touring, m-technik, and x-drive. I saw in one of your pics the PN 1378 which is what Koni specs for x-drive models. If you are using a lowering spring, wouldn't you want to go with the "m-technik" pn?
Would m-technik be for "real" lowering springs? You mentioned koni doesn't consider the pro-kit to be a lowering spring as its mild. Thanks for the archive of info! |

How are the rwd different? Valved more aggressively? I thought maybe the x-drive pn is for stock "comfort" springs, and rwd/m-technik pn was for lowering springs like the eibach prokit, but i've also seen references as to how koni considers the prokit to be stockish and not sport springs that would require a true sport shock.
Are you still on adaptive? |

As for damping characteristics, xDrive and RWD have the same damping curves, but RWD M-Sport rear shocks have more rebound, which is unnecessary IMO. I took off my EDC dampers a year ago when I went to Fat Cat Motorsports tuned passive dampers.

I purchased a new vehicle in February, everything is the same except i got the gas version (328i)
It's been over a year since this thread was compiled and wondering has anything changed? I do see H&R now has a coilover kit I'm once again wanting a kit that can drop me a good height (coilovers for sure this time) but don't want it to be "slammed" at max height in the rear. Seeing if you have the same expertise with the gas models, thank you |

Hey guys, I'm getting quotes on install, quick question.. Do the shock/struts come with new mounts for the front and rear? Is this something I should consider getting new? OEM?
Another place quoted me "replace front and rear and install new collar bolts and control arm locking nuts". What uh, does that mean exactly? Is this legitimate? Also, holy moly, some of the shops in Northern NJ have quoted me up to 1600 for install, alignment and balance. Luckily I found a quality place that will do it for a fair price. |
