N55 vacuum pump sounds like rod knock
Hello new to the forms but I always read them
Always helps me out thank you in advance. I’m having issues with the vacuum pump it’s making rod knock noise and as soon as I disconnect the vacuum hose that goes from the pump to the valve cover noise goes away I’m wondering if it’s the pump it’s self or somthing in the valve cover restricting airflow Also, valve cover is brand new installed about 300 miles ago I was driving and all of a sudden I heard a noise and Car went into drive train malfunction, and I heard a rod knock noise, but it turns out it’s not the engine because once I disconnected the vacuum pump noise goes away any help will be much appreciated |

IIRC the vacuum pump interacts with the HPFP so that would be consistent with that code. i would do some reading/searching on that, i have seen someone post in detail about that system but i don't know much about it.

How does it sound? Did it sound similar to this?
https://youtube.com/shorts/qIY80twOGbA?feature=share I will upload a better video but for me, noise continues after disconnecting the vacuum hose...I'm at a lost on what to do The noise also increases in frequency as I rev too Here's another vid. You can hear this lower toned, constant noise. I move the cam over towards the cylinders and you can hear that it sounds like normal N55 injector noise...when I bring the camera back to the other side of the engine, you can clearly hear something different. The noise speeds up as the car revs up too. When I unplugged the vacuum line from the pump to the valve cover, the noise continues. I can also hear/feel the vacuum and suction from that tube so I am still wondering what it can be. Last edited by kickthecan; 02-03-2023 at 12:59 PM.. |

Oh, are there mods to your engine/turbo/software as well? Curious as to the longevity of the N55. Want to have an idea what I might be getting into if I buy an M235i.
Thank you for your answers!
