Hi all,

BMW F30 2013 here. Air vents often smell funky, have tried for years to permanently solve, usually it goes away for a few weeks to months then comes back. Changed cabin air filter, did the AC compressor foam cleaner etc multiple times. This year for the first time I noticed that the air vents have what looks like small spots of white mold. I pulled them out, disinfected, and then smell was almost gone after that for a few weeks. Now the white spots seem to have returned, and I have not used the AC compressor since it is winter. So presumably there must be a problem deeper in the vent system.

Any advice? Is this something I can hope to tackle myself? I've fed an endoscope into the air vents as far as I could, didnt see any trace of mold deeper in the plastic housing of the air vents. It just seems to accumulate on the inner fins of the air vents near the openings.
