Anybody know what the Contis come with tread wise from new - not 8mm?

Need a new set for the M4 shortly and not paying crazy money for another set of 4s..

CS7 get a good review on the tyre review YouTube channel.

Various sources online suggest 7mm from new. PS4S come with 8mm apparently.

To be fair I liked it; lovely interior

It looks properly chunky though!

Conti SC7’s are a superb tyre. Ditched my Ps4S’s last time around for them.
They wear really well too. Mine have still got just over 4mm left on them & have done nearly 12k miles including track use. Grip is just immense. Still pretty good in very cold conditions too.
I’m that impressed with them I’ve just taken delivery of a new set from Camskill on a BF deal.
I’ll measure the tread depth if you want it. But irrespective of what it is, they’re wearing far better than any Michelins I’ve had.

Pretty crap really; more money for less tyre. It's not 1mm over 8mm either, but if you take the recommended replacement depth to be 3mm it's 20% of your tread depth you're giving up compared to the Michelin, or indeed with any other manufacturer attempting to make their scores look better by putting less rubber on the carcass!

In 2022, switched to using Falken FK520 (cnat seem to get FK510)
Why i like these tyres (all yr round)
They grip, they dont cost tons of money compared to other brands, without Nails in walls, i reckon they can do 30k mixed driving miles....

They grip well in wet, and very good in dry.
I run 225/35/20 on Front
255/30/20 on rear

Average, i manage to get the fronts for say £150 per tyre
Rear is around £180.

Used to run Falkens on my Skyline and my 200sx before that, i think there good
Thanks for the input on Falken's! I need to get new tyres for my 20" 405M's and I was looking at PS4S but they are very expensive for me at the moment. In addition to this I might be selling the 340i next year so I don't really want to spend that much for a few months use. I've had Falken's on previous cars (the classic 452's) and i loved them. I saw the Falken FK520 and they seem good to me, and I got a quote of £690 for all 4 supplied and fitted, so I'm probably going to go with these!

In fairness they're very expensive for most folk, but some just have to have what they consider to be the best, even though they don't need it for the use they are going to have.

Continental are cheaper than Michelin by a decent amount. In the end the economics are probably very similar between them.

Like I said earlier. The Cont’s wear far better than the Michelins, regardless of the 1mm less tread from new.
At 14k miles, rear Michelins certainly would be needing replacing on mine.
Comparing a full set of each, Contis around £200 cheaper.

Didn't the old Pilot SuperSport only come with 7mm as well? Some track day tyres only come with 6mm IIRC. Some could argue it's penny pinching but Michelin/Conti would argue that less tread block flexing makes for a sportier ride. I'm on the fence with that one.

In any case, the CS7 is an epic tyre. Better than the PS4 S imo.

As for the Hankooks on the new M5, Evolve's latest video test drove one and it got out of shape pretty easily and Imran mentioned Michelin developed an OE * PS5 S specifically for that car, so why on earth did they fit Hankooks?

I wouldn't say that Conti wear better in my experience, they've certainly never blown me away in that regard. In contrast I've always been surprised by the mileage you get with Michelin, doubly so because performance wise they run rings around most things IMO when it comes to real world access to that performance. That said I wouldn't want to use them as a track tyre on a porker like the F31, the sidewall softness that is well balanced for road use would just be too much.

Maybe the * tyre isn't available yet. Isn't the M5 AWD now too, or am I imagining that? I don't care enough about modern cars enough to look through the specs like I used to as a kid. With the PSS I wouldn't feel so bothered with tread depth as it's aimed as a true UHP tyre rather than a daily IMO, but everyone comes to these things with their own lens.

I'm down to 4mm on my rears after around 8k miles, but I do have a heavy foot!

Was that on the Michelins? I'm down at 3.5mm with the Pirelli PZ4's after a similar mileage but unlike the Michelins they have absolutely zero (no pun intended) benefits to justify the low mileage). I was probably similar wear to you on the Michelins if that's what you're referring to as mine were down at a slightly squeaky 1.6mm after c10k miles. Absolutely worth it though IMO.

Definitely pricey, albeit I think if you have the opportunities to explore their limits they're also definitely worth it, they truly made the car come alive compared to everything else I've had on there. That said I'd be a lot less sold on them for just traipsing around the motorway network! You could also say the same about not needing it for the cars most people stick expensive tyres on. Not much call for an M car on the north circular!

That's a piss take on a £130k car, nothing wrong with Hankook tyres per se I ran a set of their winters on my F80 M3 but at price you want the best regardless.

Nickel and diming the tyres on a car at that level? That's all about rolling resistance and cost.
