Gutted , less than 500 miles, literally screwed. Long screw through the tread, no local dealers would repair, had to shell out on a new tyre.

My local tyre place will.
Some wont because they dont know if you've run with it flat for miles.
I can understand their stance, however I would have thought if you had then it would be obvious.
Personally I wouldnt have asked them too if I had, but mine was the same as you with a screw in a repairable area of a normal tyre.

Indeed. While it does depend, safety has no price. Tire damage is the not-so-small price we all pay for enjoying our vehicles.

I've had a few runflats repaired,
same rules as a normal tyre, central 3/4 of width BSAU159

as long as you know you haven't run on it flat, and it's just slightly lower pressure from a slow leak, then yes.
Dealers won't fix them because they would have to take the responsibility, not you...

I ditched the runflats years ago, never looked back.

I had a Bridgestone RFT repaired a few months ago. All the nationals in my town would do it.
The conditions were that it hadn't been run whilst completely flat and the repair wasn't near the side walls.
When they took the tyre off, they inspected the inside rim for signs of 'marbles'. If there are marbles inside the tyre, or scoring, they shouldn't repair it.

Cost me £20 and has been fine for 5 months so far.

A lot of big tyre service companies will say you cannot repair a RFT and therefore you will have to buy a new tyre. This happened to me a few months ago with my 20" Pirelli P Zero tyre. I went to a good local tyre place and they repaired it for me for £10. I've had no issues since.

Had a nail through the centre tread of a Pirelli run-flat. Took it to a local tyre shop - who are a certified Pirelli dealer - and they repaired it without any questions or fuss. Ran it for 20k+ miles without any problem.

Any tyre can be repaired so long as the damage isn't in the sidewall. I suspect some tyres places just lack the skill or inclination to do it and rely on customer ignorance to force them to buy a new tyre. More money and less work.
