Nothing to do with Brexit, of course

Dyson chooses Singapore for new electric car plant

And conveniently, the EU has just signed a trade agreement with Singapore...

Indeed he is ... and decides to build his cars outside the UK. Clearly has a lot of faith in the UK post Brexit

Why would he be a advocate for Brexit and then have no confidence in the U.K.?

Because he’s a hypocrite. He wraps himself in the Union Jack and advocates the great future for Britain’s manufacturing outside the EU, and then when Brexit negotiations predictably fail, he promptly shifts his manufacturing to a country that can trade with the EU without tariffs.

A bit like the kind of person who votes for Brexit and then buggers off to live in Spain...

Not correct. Dyson doesn't manufacture any of its products in the UK. It selects manufacturing locations based upon technical capabilities, supply chain integration and proximity to key markets.

Selecting a non-UK country to produce the Dyson car is consistent with its established strategy.

It does employ ~5,000 people in the UK, primarily in typical HQ functions.

That’s not quite right. While his other products are now made elsewhere, Dyson was planning to build the car at Hullavington Airfield near Chippenham where the concept was developed. I believe he sought planning permission for the production facility. The timing of the decision to move production to Singapore, as the ‘easy’ Brexit negotiations he championed appear to be failing, makes him a hypocrite in my book.

In the uk we’re good at R&D, let it be manufactured anywhere in the world to make it competitive. We need more R&D linked to commercialisation, for and in, a global market. It’s to expensive to manufacture, unless it’s small scale niche products, in the UK whether you’re a Brexiter or Remainer.

Although Brexit has/is killing R&D spend and easy access to eu talent.

Will be interesting to see how Dyson get on now they’ve moved on the job lot of industry cast offs they did start with.

Plus Singapore's tax is lower so as he has a base there already I can see the sense. Would have been good for the government to fight harder for him to doit in the UK though..

Being accused of spewing crap by you is something I didn’t expect!

I am annoyed that Leave won the referendum. In my view it was the wrong decision based on some completely false assumptions about how easy it would be to negotiate a great deal, but as you say, that’s life.

However, while some form of Leave will probably happen, it is by no means a certainty. I can’t see ‘no deal’ getting voted through parliament which leaves some kind of fudged deal or the necessity to put it back to the people. We’ll see how this plays out.

Or we can keep protesting until we get another vote, and the answer comes back as one we like, rinse repeat etc...
