I'm spending my Sunday afternoon waiting on a flatbed at the corner of 72nd and Park after my drivers front tire lost it's life to some small road hazard. This is the 2nd tire in 45 days, last time it was the passenger side front that met its demise on the GSP.

Rather than spend another close to $500, I'm thinking it's time to do something different and I'm looking for recommendations from all of you running 19's or larger. The car in question is a 435 GC with staggered 442M's on it. My thinking after this is either drop down to an 18" wheel, or just ditch the (Pirelli PZero) RFTs for something else.

I've had really good luck with Continental ExtremeContact tires on my E90, but never ran them on wheels larger than 18". Then again, I ran Pirelli Sottozero 2 RFTs this winter on a set of 18's and had zero problems..

So, for those of you with large wheels in the NYC area, what's your tire of choice?

Another vote for 18" wheels and tires.

I'm in NJ too driving on 18's. Was told by many to avoid 19's on the Northeast roads due to problems that you are having. On Pirellis now, but going to Bridgestone Driveguard runflats in future. Have been told by many that they are newer technology much superior to older Continentals and Pirelli runflats usually on BMW. Friend at my local BMW dealer swears by them for his customers. Least expensive too. Hope this helps.

Running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3 on 19".

They're comfortable, and luckily haven't run into any issues in the 1.5 years I've been running them. I ditched the RFTs after 2 weeks. Picked up the A/S3 from Costco as well which has a pretty good warranty.

Get rid of the RFT's for sure, they tend to bubble and get easily damaged in my 1 year of having them. Definitely better off running 18's with slightly meatier tires, than the OEM 19's

Thanks for the feedback. I opted to keep the 19's but ditched the RFTs for a set of Pilot Sport 4s.

It's like a whole different car. Ride is much better, harshness gone, and it feels much more controlled. Keeping my fingers crossed for longevity, but I feel optimistic.

I did the same thing as well! Ditching RFT have been one of the better decisions I made in my life. Costco has the AS3s and running a sale on Michelin’s! So smooth on 19 inch rims.

Well whosagrubb you took the route that I did but going from the sport standard 18" 400m Michelin AS/3 to the MP4s at 19" on a set of 763m and it made a world of a difference as in the car feels more predictable and it's no longer harsh for me going from 18 -> 19 in the process. Don't worry about keeping your fingers crossed, just keep watching out for the road hazards (including people)

I live in NYC also and it wasn't the tires that changed my driving habits, it was slapping on the front splitter that truly changed how I drive to avoid road imperfections so my tires indirectly will benefit from it.

I feel like 18s hands down if u in the nyc area. Running conti’s for about 10k miles on it and feels amazing. Remember 18s are ideal for performance as well, don’t get me wrong though I would get 19s if I had the extra funds for summer shoes
