I just bought a set of those NGK plugs was going to put them in tonight but don't have a deepwell 12 point socket to do it.

Found a great video on doing this job. Not obvious for the first timer like me since I haven't done this on this car yet, but once you've seen it, you wonder how you didn't figure it out sooner. My issue was #5 is pulling timing about 10 degrees compared to the other 5 under hard acceleration, with or without a tune, its just more obvious with the tune. I'm replacing plugs since it has 83K miles and who knows if these are original., and swapping coil packs with #1 to see if it clears up or moves to #1, once the snow melts since #1 is super easy to get to if it is the coil pack..

Make sure you get a thinwall 12 point socket. It's required for the job.

Still waiting for the snow to melt to get to it....but thats what I guessed. Should be near an Autozone tomorrow to get the socket tomorrow.

Got my thin-wall socket from Autozone, just waiting for the snow to melt and have some time to do this.

If I were to switch off between stock and BM3 stage 1 and 2, should I stick to OEM or one step colder?

I don't think that would be my recommendation actually, and I just installed NGK 97506 (1 step colder) and I'm MHD Stg 1...seems our N55's are pretty particular about their plugs.

I first tried the 97506 on their stock gap (~.03) and got some misfires and went into limp mode. I re-gapped to ~.023 and now seems to be running smooth, but my logs still aren't as clean as before the new plugs. If I were to do it all over again I'd just go with stock bosch plugs, they're plenty fine up to anything on stock turbo.

I have the plugs in question and have zero issues. This isnt a complicated thing, its a spark plug.

so its safe to assume these "NGK 97506" are the correct plugs for the n55? when going stage 2?

It's right in the BootMod3 N55 Stage2 website recommendations. I've been using them on mine for almost a year with that tune and nothing but smooth running.

NGK 97506 gapped down to 0.022"

Caution that there have been reports of counterfeit NGKs floating around the market. They look fine, but run poorly. I'd only buy them from a reliable vendor such as Burger Tuning or FCP Euro. Expect $14-$16/plug shipped.
