I'm just saying....320 was my debadge option code. Bought via Military Sales, so even though I am in Europe it is still a US Spec with all US build options. No issues, no hassles, no questions, no 335 on the back.

No worries. Yeah, I'm not sure it was on the 2013 guide either but it's still a factory option. I think it's one of those things you may really have to press your CA on and hope he/she has had experience w it before. Heard other stories where people were told it isn't possible when it actually is.

It's not on the online config, or at least wasn't when I ordered my 2013. It also wasn't listed on the ordering guide that gives a by code list of all options, etc. My service rep was the only one in her office that knew it WAS an option code that could be used for US Spec. But, now that the code is up here on the forum, all that needs to be done is to tell the service rep in the states to add that code to the order. They may not be aware of its existence...

On the other hand it might be a good thing to keep the badge and reattach it when time comes to sell the car. Option 320, good to know, but in the end I feel like I better DIY and keep the badge somewhere...

I would think that a debadged car would sell easier than one with badges. Possibly for more if you find someone specifically looking for that model car. But then, I just can't imagine why anyone would prefer badges over none. Just me.

I attempted to order this option code for my AH3 ED...I was told, that at least for ED cars, this was not possible. Something about delays and confusion at customs if the vehicle showed up without any model designation.

Sounds like an excuse. I have to have my car shipped just the same when I return to the states. So, hopefully that's not too true... I'm sure if you told them you're willing to deal with it, they'd do it.

Actually, my "lazy sales dude" is one of the best in the business and a forum sponsor on BF...this response was directly from a BMW special order rep...here was his reply, verbatim:
"We cannot. When the vehicles enter the U.S., they require the model name on the car. Otherwise, Customs flags them as modified and it has to undergo thorough inspection which will definitely delay the vehicle." So, like a previous poster stated...I guess if you REALLY pushed it, you might get them to do it, but it could cause delays they wouldn't be responsible for...seems like a lot of work for something that takes 20 mins to DIY.

I don't think the customs argument is BS. It's very valid actually. Have you guys ever dealt with government agents??? ANYTHING that is SLIGHTLY out of the box is going to set them off because they follow a script and any deviation from that script is a major cause for concern. Evidently debadging has been attempted before shipping and they must have had issues at the customs that prompted this no-debadge policy. This is for your own good since your car will be delayed majorly if you push it. They will want to get into your car, check out the engine, all the parts, and be a general pain in the ass.
I was really convinced to DIY debadge by the customs argument, knowing full well how these people operate. |

Interesting. No mention of customs issues when I placed my order. I don't move back for another 2.5 years, so we'll see. I'll see if I can track down any other debadged owners that have already left or are moving back soon.

FWIW, I was also denied the ability to order w/o badges even when the option code was provided. Regardless, I'm glad mine came with the 335i badge as they were removed within 10 mins of ownership and stuck onto one of my tool boxes.
