No idea if this thread will help or be a waste of time, but....
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1492544 It takes quite a few posts to start narrowing this issue to the diff or diff bushings, could be worth a read. |

That's what the dealer said too. I'm thinking it came from the factory that way. You'd think there would have been metal in the oil though.

I have an appt with my shop on the 26th. I'm lucky, the dude there bought a spare M LSD for my car when they were on that ridiculous sale. So finding one isn't the hard part any more.

Update...
Differential is the sole cause of the vibration/noise. My shop has another in stock - I proposed I should not have to pay for it considering the one I was sold was defective, though I am willing to pay for labor (not too much in the grand scheme of things). He responded that he wants to talk to the BMW dealer they bought it from first, and go from there. This would have been fairly easy if the damn thing weren't discontinued. Will keep you guys in the loop.

Man that sucks. Have them manually check the backlash on the crown and pinion for the replacement. If everything goes south I can strongly recommend the Quaife - which is also "maintenance free"

Hi everyone, time for a disappointing update.
New diff finally in, as well as new diff bushings and flex disc. No change AT ALL. We are almost positive it has to be an axle at this point, most likely the inner CV. Driveshaft is solid as a rock and balanced. I ended up on LKQ and ordered a pair of rear axles from an M235xi for the amazing price of $200 shipped. Will update once these get swapped in. |

Honestly if its vibe, the easiest solution is usually the best solution and if you recently had new tire fitted i would recommend throwing on a different set of wheels/tires and ruling out a bent wheel/balance issue. I had my share of replacing expensive hard parts only to realize there is not getting over a slightly bent wheel. |

The only thing i can think of is the driveshaft support bearing is mounted upside down or the rear sealed bearings are toast. when the diff was done were the rear bearings also changed?
