Renault 5
This probably appeals to me as I am of the correct generation and remember the original (especially the Turbo -- actually probably only the Turbo ) fondly.....

I like the look of that! I only every drove a 5 Turbo once, it tried to kill me.

Friend of mine had 3 Renault 5 GTT's , knew the engine inside out as they were normally in a million parts on the drive, he used to plan on a day cruise to the coast and not leave till around lunch as he just needed to adjust the........ (add part here) , but the odd day of just pure driving they were a beast. I had the 205 cdti 2.0 ltr and the GTT was an animal. hope they bring it back and do it justice and not just a name reuse.

That looks great, the issue I have is with Renault reliability, my son had a Megane 265 about 7 years ago and it was constantly in the Dealers being fixed, when it worked it was a fantastic car though.

I think expectations might need to lower.....
It seems this is a nod to the 5 styling, including the 5 Turbo, but it’s just intended to be a super mini EV. Not some street racer to take us back to our youth. It’s a small nod to the past, but only looking forward in reality. Not a bad thing. And already a few cars in the Renault lineup for petrol heads. |

I'm slightly too young to have had the attraction to the original car but I remember others did so it did filter down to me a little.
That is one great looking EV, hopefully the production model will be close to that - except for the Renault lighting on the bumper, that's a big no. |

Reminds me of the awful MG Montego Turbo. Press the accelerator, nothing happened for 2 seconds, then it torque-steered onto the wrong side of the road

Another +1 from me, if it looks anything like that it will be very tidy. My first car was a 1983 Renault 5 GTL 1.1. Bloody awful thing, handled like blancmange, no go at all, struggled to get to 70 and needed a shit tonne of welding, nevertheless still look back with a bit of a smile. However, I blame it for making me vow to never have a woeful handling (and no the 335 is not bad handling in comparison ) no oomph car ever again - it was replaced after 1.5 years with a 205 1.9 GTi!

My first car in Summer 1982.
Top of the range 1975 Renault 5TS. It had a 1289cc engine with very low gearing. I seem to remember it had a top speed in 4th of 100mph, with gearing of 15 mph/1000rpm. Screamed its nuts off at that speed! It was also very quick for those days doing 0-60 in about 12 secs. It had a Britax fabric sunroof which concertina'ed all the way back. God I loved that car. Pic taken in Morningside Place in Edinburgh, way back then. Yes, massive rust hole in the offside wing! |

I love the look of the concept 5!
I seem to remember mine being very wallowy and prone to understeer. Brakes were good though. Unbelievably heavy steering and the engine was mounted inline with the transmission out ahead of the front axle! |

I tried a friends car on a perfectly flat straight road and attempted a standing start, torque steered me all over the road. Felt like a handful. I handed it back after 5 minutes.

The front and rear lights and the overall shape. Oh and the slatted cabin air intake on the bonnet. They missed a trick they should have kept the car handle free with just the scoop outs on the pillar and the push button!
The Turbo. Yeah that was fast but second generation! Fastest of the first gen was the Gordini I think! |

Still not a bad concept 👍🏻 but agree on the door handles, can't remember if the later ones had proper ones or not!
