Unhappy Unable to Tune - WGDC Boost Drop (Update: Solved)

2016 340i xdrive
Vargas GC
93 oct custom tune
AA Catted Downpipe
TU pump
New injectors and plugs

Hey guys,

I've been working with my tuner since the beginning of the year, but can't seem to dial in the tune. Every time he brings the boost up, I keep getting WGDC dips around 5500-6k and boost seems to drop. I'm fairly confident it isn't the tune as he's got a lot of experience with the gc.

Would anyone know what might be causing the issue?

No loose clams or intake leaks, compression test passed, no cel.

Logs (newest to oldest, last 3 maps):

UPDATE:

So it turns out it was tune related even though the previous tuner had me convinced it was something mechanical with my car.

I switched tuners and now working with OdinTuned and am extremely happy with the results on the first few revisions. Not sure why the previous tuner was having trouble, but I definitely recommend OdinTuned for anyone looking. Great communication, fast turn around and even gives you a breakdown of what he adjusts. No hard feelings against the previous tuner, but definitely looking forward to the next revisions from Kirill!

Experience with Vargas:

I do want to add for anyone looking at any Vargas product to STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Even though I'm happy with how the turbo performs now, their customer service is beyond horrendous. I can confirm first hand that all the negative reviews and comments are true and the only reason we don't see more, is that they actively remove or suppress anything negative whenever possible (probably why most of their products have no ratings). They are quick to blame the customer and will not take any responsibility whatsoever, just read their responses to anything critical.

It's unfortunate because I wanted to like and use their products, but never again. I hope this helps anyone considering and If you do decide to purchase from them, good luck!

Update Part 2: Final Logs from OdinTuned

Just want to share my final logs. I'm very happy with how the car is performing now and can't recommend Odin enough, thank you again!

Have you gotten your intake and exhaust smoke tested? 90%+ WGDC for 22psi. You're underboosting most of the pull and load actual% is always a bit under load target except for a few spikes.

Sorry for using the thread but I am trying to understand how intake and exhaust leakages can possibly influence boost!? Whether air is sucked in partially from a leaky intake or exits partially from a leaky exhaust shouldn't have any influence on boost itself!? Leaky charge-pipe is of course a different story.

I've checked the intake a bunch of times and there are no leaks. Everything is clamped down, filter is new and piping is solid (nothing flimsy that could suck in on itself)

My guess is that he's not scaling up the WGDC Feedforward table and the PID has reached its limits as the turbine distribution factor drops. If you look at Base WGDC vs Actual WGDC you can see that it grows apart over the rpm range as the turbine distribution factor drops. This indicates that the PID control is forcing the WGDC to be higher but eventually it hits its limits.

Long story short, scale up the base WGDC a bit and you shouldnt see those drops in the higher rpm range.

Edit: I think its the tune if you've checked everything else and I can kind of see it in the logs that the base wgdc hasnt been touched.

This is so good to hear. Congratulations! Your tune is looking absolutely fantastic. Starting by already around 5,200 rpm you're having around 500hp all the way until redline. This must be fast for only 93 octane.

I'm so happy that you found help, because I'm facing more or less the same issue as you can see here in my post at the other (log) thread: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...postcount=3814

I've already been told several times about the high quality and especially great communication of Kirill, too. That's what I'm missing with my actual tuner completly. No transparency at all. So for me, the big question now is, when to stop the trial and error process with the old tuner. Especially, because I guess he won't refund anything. So I would have to pay twice for the same aim. Btw, how did you handle this?

Edit: Just one more question - How many revision did Kirill need?

Thanks! I can attest to that too, Kirill is great and it only took 5 revisions. With the previous tuner I was at revision 30 before I gave up. I would reach out to him with the logs and see if he can help. His communication is great and should be able to give you a straight answer: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/member.php?u=463794

Whow, only 5 revisions. That's good to hear. I'm actually on the 17th revision. So not as bad yet as your 30, but nevertheless far away from only 5.

Thanks a lot for the informations.
