Could you ask your dealer to request that your car be kept at port until the MPPK can be installed at the port?

^^^ Why all this waiting? Just bring it back to the dealer to have it installed if you have that much of a hard-on for it. Not going to be that big of a deal to bring it back in and have it slapped in.

For those who lease, the cost of the kit is residualized if port installed. Also, the techs at the port are experts at installing M performance parts. Dealerships have been known to bungle the install of the MPPK.

Also, from what I understand, the cost of the kit is less when installed at the port versus bringing it to the dealer after the fact.

It's free if done at the port, too.

And, yes, I'd also much rather have the people who do this all the time than have my dealer do it, who may have never even tuned a single MPPK.

Do you really want your dealer to "slap it in"? This procedure is a little more involved than that.

I could put it this way: If this isn't ready by the time my car gets here, I'll skip it all together. That's how much I trust MY dealer to do it right.

Same here. My 340i goes into production Week 2 , if by the time it lands @ the VPC the MPPK isnt out I'm skipping it.

Yesterday, I asked my dealer to, if possible, delay my car's process in getting to the U.S. He did email someone--I don't know what BMW department--requesting my car's priority change to something "slower".

Is there actually any such thing, and will it work? Who knows? I thought it was worth a shot anyway.

My dealer claims he has gotten port items installed for customers, even though some of those items weren't officially listed yet as PIAs. To be clear, these weren't special-ordered items, but simply products that would eventually be available through the PIA program in the immediate future.

BMWNA says my car will be completed tomorrow. This gives me, what, 3 weeks of hoping and praying?

NOTE: I really don't want those "M Performance" decals on the side rockers. My dealer made a note of that in his email to BMW, as well.

I thought you had to buy both together with the 340 since this power kit gets its gains from less back pressure? Where the N55 got its from the intake.

I thought BMW stated the MPPK for the 340 was comprised of the MPE as well as the flash, but they didn't swap the airbox like on the 335.

About $3200 USD which makes sense

It is possible to delay your car by changing it from Priority 1 to something else. This only slows the logistics down by a few days though, hopefully enough to skip an earlier vessel. From what I understand, once that car hits the port you can't hold it at there further - they want to move those cars out of course.

I would probably skip MPPK/MPE if it's not available at the port by the time my car gets there on Dec 29 mostly because I'd lose out on the residualized value on top of the kit costing more.

I'm not sure what to make of the M Performance decals yet. Do they slap them on by default? I would have thought they'd just give you the decals in a folder or something for you to put them on. Might be too ricey for me.

Huh...TIL...

So, let's sum up.

MPPK= M power Performance Kit, which for the 340i, comprises of a tune. Probably an off the shelf tune? Or is this an actual TUNER sitting down with your car, with your gas from your local area and tuning your BMW? If it's the former, then...why can't you do it on your own? Or why can't a BMW Dealer (where you'd be taking your warranty work anyway) do it for you if it's really just that flash? I'm assuming it's the former because it has all the characteristics of an off the shelf tune.
MPE = M Performance Exhaust. So....unbolt and bolt the new exhaust back up? I understand there's a few electronic bits under for the flaps to open up, but they probably didn't make it so that you're tig welding or soldering new connections. Again, not sure how anyone can mess this up.

Disclaimer: Not trying to come off abrasive. Genuinely curious as this just doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

With the 335 MPPK it is a flash tune, I assume it's going to be the same for the 340. My dealership installed mine.

what I understand is that you can buy the exhsust (MPE) or the Power & Sound kit. The last one includes the MPPK and the exhaust.

What if you buy the MPE (which seems to be available now) and then later on want the MPPK? I'm assuming you won't need to pay for the MPE again but I've not seen anything that states that officially.

Quote:
The stock exhaust has too much back pressure to work with the higher flow of the new power kit, so the 340i M Performance Exhaust has reduced back pressure to work with the remapped ECU of the power kit.

With the previous MPPK (for the N55 engine) we went the route of more air intake, but for the 340i (B58 engine) we modified the the exhaust system to reduce back pressure and allow the air to exit the car faster, which together with the modified ECU, results in more power.
Maaayybbeee they won't let you get only the power kit, but it should not be a problem the other way round (MPE without MPPK).

I still think BMW just wants its customers to pay more.
