I've got a 340i loaner currently and it makes this exact same noise when shifting, even when nice and warm. Almost reminds me of a wet shoe on a gym floor or something.

Since it's not my car, I'm not too concerned with it, but I am curious.

Anyone with a 6MT experiencing this? I haven't noticed it but will keep my ears open.

Short update : my car is at the dealer since this morning. I test drove it with the tech and I was able to recreate the noise. It happened under these conditions :
-I start the car, usually let it run for 2 minutes. With the a/c on.
-I put the driving mode in sports+ with the shifter in sports position. Always in automatic.
-I start accelerating softly until about 2000-3000 rpm then I accelerate harder at 90% of the throttle.
-as soon as the car shifts it makes that squeaking noise.

They had all day and they still didn't figure it out. Soon hopefully

Try it with the AC on and full throttle.

They ordered a new belt and tensioner.
This is a video of a e9x M3 and it does the same noise. Had a faulty tensioner.

Glad they figured it out. I will wait until my first service to worry about this.

Could you edit the thread title to "tensioner squeek" or something so it's easier for others to find this thread? Be interesting to see how many cars have this issue.

Well they didn't really find the problem. After they saw the video of the m3 I posted above, and the discussion I had with the guy, they decided to start with that. The tensioner and belt are back order, so gotta wait on that. At least I got My car back!

I also started hearing this noise with my 340i x drive. Hear it sometimes from 1-2nd gear and almost always 2nd-3rd

Happens on mine as well when cold, in sport+, under mild acceleration. I rarely use AC so the sound has been occurring without AC being on. Am curious to see how this turns out.

I got my car back 2 hours ago and I haven't been able to reproduce the noise.

They changed tensioner and serpentine belt. I'll post the part numbers tomorrow.

They didn't say why they changed them. After discussing the issue with them and showing them comments from videos with people that had this issue with older generation M3's they decided to start tackling the problem by replacing these 2 items.

That tensioner is the exact part I suspected with mine too, my alternator belt moves a LOT when you push on it.
