Does it really matter why anyone does anything? Plenty folk want to mount their phones where they can see them and plenty don't want to at all. The discussion isn't about who is right or wrong, as it really doesn't matter, it's just for anyone who's tried different ways of doing it to share those with those might be interested... the rest of you can get lost!

Why on earth would anyone be happy with the onboard sat nav? The alerts are pure crap and I'd much rather rely on Waze or Google maps to give me something real time.

Getting alerted to potential hazards in the road etc are great as is being made aware of police speed traps. Even if you're not speeding you know there will be a lot of dicks slamming on their brakes too late causing issues for others.

I have a chunk of music on the HDD and a chunk of music on usb sticks in the car.

Until the car lets me display Waze on the screen I won't be removing my mount.

I'm happy enough with CarPlay and iDrive, so the reasons for mounting don't exist for me.

Others prefer to have a mount, fair play to you.
